Having a reservation I had to wait 20 minutes for my table was unacceptable, having arrived ahead of time. After I approached them again was rudely replied: "we don't have a table for you because you didn't order the Christmas Package and pay ahead!" To which I was surprised since we had a reservation at the restaurant and didn't want/like the items on the Christmas Menu so we opted to go a la carte. Once I insisted the french supervisor/manager came and apologized and said our table was being setup and would be seated momentarily. The service was lacking as we had to remind them we wanted more wine 3 times and 3 times to get our check. I'm surprised at the lack of service which St. Regis prides itself with. The only thing that saved the day was the food, which was great, they accommodated the small changes we requested. Again had to ask them multiple times for water. There was live music but something was wrong with the sound system and it was on and off, so unless you were right in front of the stage, you wouldn't have known there was live music. All in all a disappointing Christmas Eve dinner, not sure I'd like to come back or recommend anyone to dine here on Christmas Eve. The menu was 3200 pesos per person (almost 189USD!!), we ended up paying 1500 pesos per person and ate what we wanted. So beware when booking your dinners here, you might be disappointed. And as mentioned by others the decor is dated and needs...
Read moreAfter landing in Veracruz, Spanish explorer Hernán Cortés advanced upon Tenochtitlan with the aid of many of the other native peoples,[33] arriving there on 8 November 1519.[34] Cortés and his men marched along the causeway leading into the city from Iztapalapa, and the city's ruler, Moctezuma II, greeted the Spaniards; they exchanged gifts, but the camaraderie did not last long.[35] Cortés put Moctezuma under house arrest, hoping to rule through him.[36]
Tensions increased until, on the night of 30 June 1520 – during a struggle known as "La Noche Triste" – the Aztecs rose up against the Spanish intrusion and managed to capture or drive out the Europeans and their Tlaxcalan allies.[37] Cortés regrouped at Tlaxcala. The Aztecs thought the Spaniards were permanently gone, and they elected a new king, Cuitláhuac, but he soon died; the next king was Cuauhtémoc.[38]
Cortés began a siege of Tenochtitlan in May 1521. For three months, the city suffered from the lack of food and water as well as the spread of smallpox brought by the Europeans.[33] Cortés and his allies landed their forces in the south of the island and slowly fought their way through the city.[39] Cuauhtémoc surrendered in August 1521.[33] The Spaniards practically razed Tenochtitlan during the final siege of...
Read moreWe went to have breakfast at this restaurant on Saturday (02/01/2025, first impression; very elegant a very warm welcoming by the host, after looking around we decided to have the buffet instead of à la carte. The buffet was extensive and very nice, you get one main dish from a special menu. I decided the eggs Benedict, my companion and egg dish. You will see in the picture that they look pretty good, when I cut into them , the egg whites were still raw and running and watery, they didn't strain them properly, the Hollandaise sauce was tasteless and too thick, a place with this quality cuisine could not have made this, I thought, but I did not complain, maybe I should have. The service was very nice and attentive. The price is high as I expected it to be, but I was expecting better food. I regret to say that I do not recommend it. A waiter recommended the Sunday buffet and described it to be delicious, so we went on Sunday to see for our selves, I asked the hosts if we could have a look, she said they were seating some people first, so I sat down and waited, after they sat down the three parties they had there they just were taking to themselves( three hosts) and never bother to show me the buffet, again they were not busy at all, I just left. Disappointing, will...
