We loved it so much that we visited Animal twice in our 4 day trip to Mexico City!
The food is incredibly delicious! The first night we had cocktails at the bar prior our dinner, and we were moved onto the dining area.
We started with some tuna tostadas and some short rib dumplings; for main we ordered the steak covered with a salted crust, which came with a show and for the side we ordered the Animal Rice, everything we ate was absolutely delicious! All the food and ingredients were so fresh. We loved the wine cart they bring for wine suggestions and we also loved the whisky cart.
Our server Alan our first nights was so awesome, he was so attentive, friendly and detailed on explaining the food items. One thing that I noticed was that all the wait staff is always paying attention to all the tables, not only the ones they are assigned, I loved this attention to detail touch.
Our first night an incident happened where some foam from a drink was spilled on my boyfriend’s jacket from a server walking behind us. Alan and the manager right away took care of the situation, they sent the jacket to have it dry-cleaned and got it delivered to our room the next day. This incident really didn’t ruin our experience as we came back two days after for a second meal. My only suggestion would be that perhaps, for incidents like this one, management should offer a couple of comped cocktails or something of the sort.
On our second dinner, we only shared a few small items, the short rib dumplings AGAIN as we loved them so much, we also shared a spicy salmon roll and Hamachi sashimi, the sashimi was so delicious and fresh, we were so impressed with the quality of the seafood. This time we did get to taste a dessert, a lime cheesecake which was so smooth and flavorful. The service again was spectacular by Ricardo!
On the second night, which it was a Sunday, they had a pretty cool show happening at the restaurant. The atmosphere both night was incredible, especially with the DJs playing some amazing music.
I can’t wait to travel back to Mexico City and eat again at Animal, by far Animal is in my top 10 favorite...
Read moreThe food was good, and the space beautiful. The atmosphere is very lively, reminiscent of Miami or Las Vegas. But several aspects of the experience were befuddling, especially for a restaurant at a St Regis Hotel where you expect a certain level of service for an exacting customer base willing to spend a little extra (or a lot, potentially). The service had moments where it seemed overly attentive yet things went wrong like ordering drinks that never arrived, or having long gaps of time where no-one came to the table and staff inside huddled in large groups throughout the restaurant. It was very awkward when one of us ordered a drink and it was not as described by the self described "mixologist", in fact it was the exact opposite of the style requested, and a different drink was consequently requested. We were asked -what- about the drink was not liked several times before the new drink order was taken, and still billed for the drink in question after this strange exchange. Frankly the drink I got was not good either (although the glassware was nice), but I said nothing and drank it anyway not wanting to have an awkward exchange. After waiting more than twenty minutes for wine that never came, we simply asked for the bill and eschewed dessert (something I never do if I am enjoying a nice dinner), which seemed to puzzle staff - while there appeared to be some recognition we were unhappy, there was no attempt to remedy the situation or even to ascertain what had occurred or why that was the case. It took quite a long time to get the bill after it was requested. I do not often review restaurant experiences that fall short, but considering how excited I was for this one,...
