La Piccola Trattoria — Restaurant in Mexico City

I ordered the puttanesca, an easy recipe that is hard to mess up. Unfortunately when I was served there where no anchovies on my pasta or any signs of garlic. I pointed it out to the manager and he took it back to the kitchen. 3 minutes later he come back with my plate and one cold anchovies in tomato sauce. The olives tasted as if the had been pulled out of a jar and the sauce was so bitter that my lips burned for a while. The coffee was really good and the pana Cote was really good. Service was not to Mexico standards. The place has the opportunity of being a nice restaurant but it needs someone overlooking the kitchen. You will also notice the office made by plywood, the extinguisher on te floor, some cushions in te benches are ripped and the place could use some maintenance. We had a wonderful Valentine’s date night at this restaurant! The service was exceptional—Andres, our waiter, was incredibly professional and attentive.

For our appetizer, we tried the ZUPPA DI FUNGHI, and it was absolutely delicious—a must-try! For the main course, I had the Margherita Pizza with fresh mozzarella, which was thoughtfully shaped like a heart for the occasion—such a cute touch! My husband ordered the LINGUINE ALLA PESCATORA and loved every bite.

To top it off, I requested an Affogato, even though it wasn’t on the menu, and they kindly made one for me. It was hands down the best Affogato I’ve ever had!

To make the evening even more special, the manager treated us to some sparkling wine to celebrate our date night.

The food was alright. Not the best, and not the worst. The service was ok at first, then we were left pretty much ignored , had to ask for a box for leftovers, had to ask for the bill, then the machine... But mostly, the experience became utterly disappointing when you feel scammed. There was a pretty little poster on the window advertising a pizza and a pasta for 349, the bill we got was for 255 + 245. The explanation?: they say it's because the poster was for takeout only (only there is no mention of that on the poster). That's the point you just resign to the fact you got ripped off, I'm just happy to pass on the relevant information to anyone that reads this review. For the record, there are plenty of other decent restaurants in the neighborhood that treat their customers...
