Great dining experience in San Miguel Chapultepec. Went for lunch on a Sunday. For appetizers we ordered cauliflower and soft shell crab croquettes and chicharrón of jowls with eggs (very delicious). Our main course was risotto with mushroom and beef, seared tuna and chile en nogada. All the dishes were great, with the exception of the tuna which was a bit like lukewarm. Good service, fairly priced. The ambience was cool.

TL:DR - Located just away from the traffic-ridden Constitution Avenue and Chalpultepec Park, MADEREROS is a fake hidden-gem that is diseased with bad service, egregious bait-and-switch pricing, and uneven food portions. --- - After a brisk 30-minute walk from the Chalpultepec Castle, we found the restaurant with it's nice outdoor section (Atmosphere, +). - We received a table immediately without the need for reservations (Service, +). - The interior of the building felt authentic; its red-painted walls and colorful paintings matched with the dark brown chairs and tables supplemented by green plants inside also dark-brown tables (Atmosphere, +). - The menu was... different than what the photos from online present, there was not as much on the menu as I saw online. (Food, -). - The waiter, male, understood English (Service, +). - When one of my family members asked about if the pasta came with meat- she was ordering it on behalf of my ten-year-old brother, the waiter left and returned with a woman who I assume is a higher-up. She said that adding extra meat would cost $60 MEX added on top of the $210 for the pasta. Cool, it's not going to be that much, put that in (uh oh). - 45 minutes wait in a restaurant barely occupied (4-5 people outside and another family inside) is annoying at best and downright egregious at worst (Service, ---). - At least the restaurant provided us with something to eat, chips that were so crunchy that I thought I was in America for a second along with a spicy condiment to put on the chip. We finished the chips when our food still didn't arrive; we got a second one to accompany us with the wait (Service, +). - Not all food are created equal, apparently, because the portions between the $300-400 MEX food was staggering. - Two of the orders- the Madereros Burger and the recommended Picaña A Las Brasas- came with extra food to help us enjoy our meal. - The other two were situated on a large plate with minimal food in the center. In fact, the Pasta dish that was supposably an entry meal had more content than those two main course dishes (Food, --). - The food was really good. I refuse to lie about it. Picaña A Las Brasas is a definite must-get if you ever want to go here. (Food, ++). The burger was great as well. It was an absolute shock to everyone when the bill surpassed $2000, even if we knew that we were going to order $300-400 food. Here's some highlights: - Want to refill water? Yeah, that'll be an extra $85 every time (they don't even fill it to the top since its one glass bottle shared among five cups) - Charged tax after the subtotal (same thing as VAT basically). Fine with that, except there was a tip *on top* of that total. I have literally never seen a restaurant apart from this one do that. - Charging us $210 for the extra pieces of meat on the pasta. Yeah, the $60 was a lie, apparently their excuse was the fact that they had to use the meat content of two taco dishes (from which we never ordered or even saw on menu) to supplement the extra meat on pasta. If that was the case, then why not just give the entire meal to us then? Bait-and-switch, avoid adding anything that requires a cost. *The best part about this is that of the following above, none were ever mentioned on the menu itself, nor mentioned by the staff.* From a restaurant that says "Our service improves every day," I hate to imagine how it was one year ago when that reply was posted. Don't be fooled by the reviews or the location, it is not worth your visit, time, or money. Go elsewhere, there are places quicker and cheaper with just as good or even better food.

I came to Madereros with some friends as, apparently, this is THE new place in “La San Miguel” neighborhood. I was a little disappointed overall: the waited had absolutely no clue whatsoever of the menu or the dishes. We asked on their drinks menu, to which he answered that they served drinks (?). Another waiter had to come to the table to explain what the place had to offer. We tried some mezcal and pepper drink which deliciously washed away the waiters’ lack of knowledge. For dinner we tried the crab and cauliflower pops (which I could’ve definitely spared), the pork (whose only surprise was its overpricing), and the grilled picanha, which itself saved the entire dinner. It was simply perfect; served with a roasted eggplant pureé and some veggies —totally worth the entire dinner. For desserts we tried the arroz con leche (my mom’s is waaaay better) and the matcha bread, which was just okay. We heard about the parmesan cake —which was sold out—, and i’d be willing to come back just to try that.

Definitely the best restaurant in the area, and it's fairly new so it hasn't been overrun yet by the masses. Fresh, local ingredients, well-prepared with hints of smokiness from the focus on open fire cooking. Attentive service from friendly staff and very reasonable prices for the overall experience. Small menu with daily specials depending on what's available that day, open for breakfast lunch and dinner.

Honestamente, no destacaron muchas cosas.
