Museo del Caracol — Attraction in Mexico City

Monday holiday. Ticket 95 Peso each. Over 60 and less than 13 child, students with ID FREE. This castle located on a small hill winding, bricks road to reach top. there was an elevator at the ticket entrance, but now NOT in service! So you have to walk uphill about 800 meters. Not easy! No wheel chair or seniors who has difficulty to walk cannot go! As you are not allowed to carry water or food that makes it more cumbersome to climb.

Must respect their strict policy as they want to protect and preserve this ancient castle with palace. MUST see though; if you can walk long. On the way some rest benches here and there who wants to catch breath! After reaching, it takes about two to three hours depending upon your taste. Went on 20th August...lucky no rain! Cost was 80 pesos, which is the same as Chapultepec Castle but with much less stuff. The focus is on mostly Mexican revolutions from approximately 1700 to the early 20th century. The museum is completely made up of informational wall placards and dioramas. The dioramas are great but there are no other visual displays other than that. The only other display, which was really awesome, was at the end in a circular room, which I assume is the center of the snail shell, which held a book that I think was the original Mexican Constitution, and had a yellow stained glass ceiling and a giant Mexican eagle. Since I was translating every wall placard into English, it took longer than I expected to get through the museum, but still only took me about an hour and a half. Antes de cada visita al Castillo de Chapultepec era obligatorio pasar por aquí; solo una vez fui a cada museo de la ciudad por trabajos escolares y una tal vez por visitas guiadas por parte de la escuela. Las demás veces que he ido fueron por gusto; los museos son unos lugares tan tranquilos, uno se puede relajar y ponerse a reflexionar hasta que llegan los demás, por eso iba desde que abrían, en una ocasion tuvimos la osadía de llegar antes de que abrieran. No era un museo muy concurrido, era lo que me agradaba, había poca gente. La primer visita que hice a este museo, del Caracol, fue casi por accidente, tomamos unas escaleras que casi no se veían en la ladera del cerro y esa escalera terminaba cerca de el caracol; entramos y todo lo que mostraba eran las imágenes de mi libro de historia. Para cuando nos enviaron por trabajo escolar al caracol, yo ya llevaba dos visitas mas las del castillo. Era tradición ir y hacer ese recorrido subir el cerro por esa láreda, que no se si aun exista, entrar al caracol y culminar en el castillo. Actualmente tiene todo mejor que en aquellos días, me alegra ver que sigue ahí y completamente renovado, son parte de mi historia y recuerdos familiares. Les recomiendo a todos la última parte donde se muestra la Constitución y leer claramente lo que dice el articulo 123, ahí mostrado, muestra un México distinto del que vivimos y conocemos o nos quieren hacer creer que conocemos. Vayan y lean todo lo que ahí hay, saldrán con una visión distinta de lo que somos y lo que podemos llegar a ser. Pero eso depende de cada quien, no lleven celulares, no pierdan el tiempo en fotos, lean comprendan y aprendan, el conocer nuestra historia no es para obtener una buena calificación, es para lograr mejorar lo que hasta ahora...
