Mesón del Cid — Restaurant in Mexico City

Glass stained windows and some ancient looking armors will definitely woo you the moment you step inside this small restaurant. However the beauty stops there. The drinks are watered down, the service is horrendously slow and the food is abysmal! I went to the restaurant with my wife at 7 PM in the evening. As expected the restaurant was nearly empty. We ordered a mojito and a Manhattan. The mojito tasted like lemonade and the Manhattan was extremely bitter. We then asked for a baby goat preparation and a grilled chicken dish at around 7:15. The main trouble starts now. We waited for over an hour and no one came to our service in between. At around 8:40 the waiters bring out the food and the main server actually starts training another server there about plating!! we were famished and literally were astonished at the lack of courtesy from the servers. Coming to the food, i have never seen goat meat come out as white meat. The goat had the skin on which was extremely slimy and disgusting to eat. The 'grilled' chicken was 3 pieces of fried chicken! If i had wanted fried chicken i could have gone to KFC. We literally left the moment my wife had a piece of the goat because it was so revolting and bad. El lugar es muy lindo, la temática medieval la llevan super bien✅️, muy bueno para ir en grupo con amigos pero no recomiendo para grupos grandes, ideal para máximo 4 ya que el servicio es lento y no terminan de atender a todo un grupo grande cuando los primero ya terminaron su comida.

Fuimos un grupo de 16 personas en la cena Medieval, y el lugar en donde nos pusieron, era malo ya que los del fondo no pudieron disfrutar nada del espectáculo, la iluminación es pobre y se entiende por la temática, pero es lamentable que los actos solo se den en un lugar y no se puedan mover por un escenario más grande y así se pierde la visibilidad. Aveces entre las risas y aplausos de pierde un poquito la voz de los actores. Pero lo que pude ver me pareció muy lindo, entretenido, agradable y el tiempo se disfruta bastante.

Considero que la cena Medieval debería de ser más íntima o sea menos personas, máximo 50. Ya que para el costo que piden por $850 y no tener el gusto de apreciar el espectáculo... pues no es justo, o bien que el manejo del escenario sea mejor para los actores.

La comida 🍲✅️ Es buena, si dan buenas porciones, es rica, llega a buena temperatura y se disfruta, dan refil de vino 🍷 cada que lo necesitas Así que por ese tema todo super bien. 👍 menos el postre que es mega pequeño, como 5cm no más!

Servicio de meseros ❌️ El personal es lento, grosero y exigente, al final del evento estaban cobrando el 25% del total del servicio, lo cual por lo que hicieron se me hace un abuso total, me decían que lo justo era el 20 y cuando les ofrecí el 10% que fueron poco más de 1500 se ofendieron muchísimos y hasta me levantaron la voz, todo esto lo justifico con que, cuando pedíamos el siguiente platillo tardaban aproximadamente 10 a 20 minutos para atender a menos de la mitad de la mesa, también, por ser la anfitriona del evento pues mis amigos me decían a mí y cuando le solicitaba al mesero algo, me echaba una mirada muy pasada y bueno 😬 era incómodo.

Por otro lado El servicio de Valet ✅️✅️ Buenísimo 👏 el chico muy amable, atento y servicial, inclusive ayudando en caja y en ocasiones ayudando con otros temas, el 100% recomendado Gracias José Luis✔️

Baños 🚻 Super lindos, amplios, iluminados, limpios y tranquilos.

Reservaciones ❗️⁉️ Pon mucha tensión con el número de invitados, ya que con más de 6 tienes que dar el 50% del total de la cuenta, la cual no es reembolsable si es que algún invitado falta. Si eso llega a pasar tedsn la comida para llevar. La señora que atiende es amable...

I read the reviews before booking a table, and was confused: some said everything was excellent, some gave it 1 star and said it was horrible. So here is my opinion. The restaurant itself looks good: the medieval style, the building, the concept etc. The food was good, we ordered chipriones (I might’ve spelled that incorrectly) and meat. The wine menu has quite a few options, and prices are reasonable. I loved the dessert, I think it’s called crema catalana. Many have written that the service was terrible. From my experience, it was good, all waiters were polite and paid attention. Also, the tables are placed 2 meters or more away from each other and the utensils are brought in sealed packaging (a special thank you for the latter 🙏🏼).
