AVOID AVOID AVOID My issue with Migrante is not with the food, or the staff. The reason you should avoid this restaurant is entirely down to the lying, duplicitous owner, Fernando. With him, you risk being a significant sum of money out of pocket. After our dining experience on June 21st, we paid the bill and noticed we had been overcharged by almost 2,000 MXN. Upon noticing, we alerted the staff and asked to have the transaction cancelled, and that we would gladly repay the correct amount. We were issued with a receipt to say the transaction had been cancelled and the money would be returned to my account. We then paid the bill again, at the correct amount. The next day, I had not received the refund yet, so we visited the restaurant around 24 hours later to query why. I was told to expect the refund within 5 working days. Understanding that this is often the case, I resolved to wait for the bank to process the refund. After 5 working days, I was due to leave Mexico and had still not received the refund. Thus, I messaged the restaurant via Google, and asked if they could provide an update. I was told to expect the refund within 10 working days from the original date. Fernando even shared his mobile number with me and offered to personally refund me if the bank didn’t do so within the timeframe. Quite why he provided me with his number is a mystery, as when I messaged him to request the refund he promised after 10 working days, he became avoidant, filled with excuses, and eventually, aggressive. Suffice to say, Fernando was not to be forthcoming with the refund he personally offered, and eventually ignored my messages altogether. I’m not sure what happened with the supposedly cancelled transaction, but I never received the refund via the merchant’s bank. Understanding I was getting nowhere with him, I issued a chargeback via my bank. Supplying them with all the information, I knew I would have no issue in receiving the refund this way, but was very disappointed it had to reach this stage. Fernando disputed the chargeback, supplying evidence that even proved we had overpaid, thereby actually supporting my own claim. Not the sharpest tool in the box. Therefore, I had to take it to arbitration. At this stage, the ruling was issued in our favour and 4 months 8 days, and a lot of headaches later, the refund was issued to my bank account today, 29th October. A tad more than 10 working days. Therefore, in case you wouldn’t like to run the risk of being 6,101 MXN (£235) out of pocket, DO NOT DINE AT MIGRANTE. Fernando, it was a pleasure doing...

I will not talk about the food itself. This restaurant tried to scam 300 USD / £230 / 6,100 Mexican Pesos from us. I would stear clear.

We dined there with my boyfriend back in June 2024. We were visiting Mexico City from Europe, and were looking forward to having dinner at Migrante.

When the bill came, my boyfriend paid, adding a 20% tip. After tapping our phone, we realised the bill was almost 2,000 pesos more than the presented bill (which was correct) and the added tip.

We alerted the staff to the mistake, who presented a refund ticket, and asked us to pay for the bill again. This time, after making sure the amount was correct, I paid the bill.

The refund process should have been quick, according to the staff. However, when two days later, we did not see any refund on my boyfriend’s account, we came back to the restaurant, asking for more information about the refund. The staff then told us it would take 5 working days. This was not ideal as we were towards the end of our trip, but we thought this was an honest mistake from the staff, and we moved on.

5 working days later, still no refund. My boyfriend then messaged the restaurant on Google and ended up texting with the owner. Now, the refund was going to take 5-10 working days. Following this, after still not receiving a refund after the appropriate time, the owner said he would personally pay us back. When provided with different options to send us our money back, multiple times. We were ignored, or told he did not have the funds to pay us back. This back and forth lasted quite a bit, until the owner became very aggressive when we mentioned (not thinking it would actually have to happen) leaving a negative review. No honest business owner would react this way after a mistake they made. 300 USD / £230 / 6,100 Mexican pesos is not a small amount as well, and I felt we were rightfully disappointed in this behaviour.

After realising we were never going to go anywhere with this individual, my boyfriend filed a charge back to his bank. Migrante disputed the charge back, despite being well aware of their mistake, and the numerous pieces of evidence provided.

Fast forward to today, 4 months later, my boyfriend finally got his money back, after taking the charge back to arbitration. I am now writing this review to avoid the same happening to other customers.

Avoid this place, ran by a dishonest owner!! I will also write to the Michelin guide to make them aware of the unacceptable behaviour we...

Given the hype, rave reviews and high price point, this was a pretty disappointing fine dining experience. We did the 9-course tasting menu, and although about 1/3 of the dishes were excellent, the rest were underwhelming and felt extremely confused. Mostly, there was a sense that every dish was trying to be way too many things at once, with an exaggerated number of ingredients and flavors and textures on the plate that ultimately just didn’t mix, nor add up to anything coherent. Like someone was trying way too hard to impress, and instead of allowing clear flavors to shine through, it was all lost in a jumble of colors and foam.

The service was very friendly but very scattered. A large number of different servers showed up at our table at various points, but none seemed in command of the menu or drink list. When we asked them to explain about the wine pairing (which we were eager to try) they sounded clueless and unable to explain the types of wines we would be served. Even the explanations for each dish were done in a very robotic manner - simply reciting as a list of elements on each plate with no real context or explanation or story as to what the dish was meant to be about, which is what we normally love most about fine dining.

When we finally just asked for suggestions for specific wines that work well with dishes on our menu, our server simply said “Well maybe you can choose a white wine.” When we asked him to suggest what type, he seemed a bit lost.

So overall, despite a few standout bites that were truly delicious, the experience was not nearly at the caliber of comparable CDMX fine dining venues like Maximo, Pujol or Quintonil. The offerings here felt confused, like the kitchen was mostly determined to impress with style over substance, to try everything all at once instead of having a clear culinary direction or flavor profile. Definitely didn’t live up to the very high price tag. Or maybe we just caught them on...

I will come here every time I visit Mexico City - the experience is just as good as Pujol (maybe a little understaffed for servers) - the food is beautifully presented, very unique and mostly tasty (explanation below). We started with a cocktail and wine - they have a very unique cocktail menu, definitely try one! We started with fried shrimp “tacos” - my favorite! This time the shrimp tasted a little undercooked but still delicious. Then we tried the watermelon ceviche - too sweet in my opinion, I think it needed more citrus and maybe spice? Or even some onions…. The last time I came, the ceviche was perfection (will add photo) but they change their menus often so I don’t think it was available. Aged beef tartar - way too much grilled onions, it totally overpowered the beef. Also, it was missing something, can’t put my finger on it, maybe also acid. NY teak with mole - a little over cooked and way too charred, not burnt but it was hard to chew! The greens were over salted, the mushrooms were under seasoned and I’m not sure if the sweet potato purée and mole sauce really compliment each other? The complementary birthday dessert was so light and delicious! Too bad it’s not on the menu bc it’s definitely better than both the desserts we tried last time (will include photos). The in-depth review of each dish may not reflect a five star worthy experience but this place is still worth it! The price is a little high for Mexico City but still reasonable for the level of artistry.

Migrante: Refined Flavors with a Warm Touch Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (5/5) Migrante offers a fine dining experience that balances sophistication with hospitality. The food is flavorful and creatively infused with spices and influences from around the world. The wine pairing complements the menu beautifully, and the service is warm and attentive without being overbearing. The Good: •Global Inspiration: Dishes feature spices and flavors from across the globe. •Tasty & Thoughtful Cuisine: Each plate in the set menu was well-executed and full of depth. •Wine Pairing: Carefully selected and worth it. •Friendly Service: Attentive, welcoming, and made the experience more enjoyable. •Great for a Date: Elegant but relaxed—ideal for a romantic evening out. The Not-So-Good: •Plan Ahead: It’s best to book in advance. On weekdays, though, you might get lucky—there were a few open tables when I went. The Bottom Line: Migrante delivers an elevated yet cozy dining experience, with globally inspired flavors, excellent wine, and top-notch service. A great pick for date night or any special occasion that deserves something more than just dinner.
