Worst experience I’ve had after traveling to 10+ countries and being Mexican myself. I just needed a bed for 1 night before catching my next flight. The staff confirmed my reservation in the morning, got there before check in to drop my suitcase and go have lunch. I was told my room would be ready at 3 pm, then at 4 pm. I came back at 4:30 after I was told it was ready, was given a room number and bed… and it wasn’t ready yet. I communicated through WhatsApp and asked about the 3 pm check in because my bed wasn’t ready at 4:30 and the response I got was “don’t worry, your reservation has been cancelled already, now you can look for another place to sleep”. I communicated that I never asked for a cancellation and the staff said “no, but I’m giving it to you”. WHAT? I had never experienced such horrible customer service, at no point was I rude nor requesting something out of the ordinary and what I paid for. I followed the steps mentioned through WA and was understanding that my room was not ready at 3 pm. The room maid said the reason was because her mom and her are responsible for the cleaning of the beds and her mom was at her second job and wasn’t back yet. All of this while I was looking now where I was going to sleep tonight because of them canceling my reservation. It is not a guest’s fault that a business is understaffed and should have complied with what was offered when the reservation was confirmed. So disappointed after reading so many good reviews. I guess I just made it on time for “G’s” attitude. Horrible.

My experience was the same as Caterina’s and Edith’s from a few months ago. I received a text message stating that if no one was there when I arrived, they would leave the key in a bag—without any further instructions, so I replied asking if I was supposed to receive a photo or more details. Since I’ve traveled to many countries, I found it odd that they communicated via text instruction so I emailed them right away, to confirm the communication. Shortly after, they canceled my booking—just like they did with Caterina and Edith. How is this considered reliable? I work in the travel industry, specifically focusing on solo female travelers and ensuring safe experiences. This was definitely NOT it. Also, if you have any sense of customer service, at the very least, you should introduce yourself properly and provide more details. A vague, last-minute message like this feels sketchy—especially for female travelers. (Screenshot attached for reference.)

I stayed at CC for 7 nights with two of my friends in a 4 person room. Lucia was so accommodating- ensuring we all got to room together, very responsive to messages, etc. For a hostel and for such a cheap price, this place can’t be beat. The location is within a few minutes walking distance to both Condesa and Roma Norte, as well as a handful of blocks from the Metro. The only bummers were that the WiFi can be spotty at times when using it in your room, and only having 2 communal restrooms caused us to wait sometimes to go to the bathroom or shower. But again, these are understandable challenges that come with staying in a hostel instead of a hotel. It was nice to have rooftop access to lounge in the sun, free filtered water, a large locker in the room (you provide lock) and provided towels. Each bunk also has a lamp, charging station, and little shelf for your things. I 1000% recommend Casa Columpio, thank you for a great time!

AVOID! ⛔ SHIMMER TO ANOTHER HOSTEL, FORGET THIS AND TAKE YOUR GLITTER WITH YOU. By far the worst hostel (in terms of welcoming) I have ever stayed in my entire travelling EXPERIENCE. Casa Pepe Hostel has a better location, trust me.

Dear owner, Luis or Ruiz, or whatever your name was. This is for you.

Extremely Disappointing and Unprofessional Experience 👎

This hostel was a complete misrepresentation of what was advertised. Upon arrival, the property looked much smaller than shown in the pictures. Even more concerning, the owners did not answer the door, they gave us an automated system which I thought ok fine but I struggled —it was the temporary guests who let me in and showed me around, essentially taking on the role of a staff member.

The environment felt antisocial and disorganised, with no sign of the owner during my stay. NOT A SINGLE STAFF MEMBER. The other guests were the only redeeming aspect, creating a sense of community and support. Without them, I would have been completely lost, they supported me when things got worse with the owner.

When I requested a blanket via WhatsApp (still not met him yet) because the one I had was stained, the owner got offended and refused to provide me another one. Hand on my heart, I did not behave rudely, I mean it was my first time in CDMX and yet he responded in an aggressive and dismissive manner, saying that if I wasn’t happy, I could leave. 😂😂 I was stunned by this reaction and showed the message to other guests, who were equally shocked and agreed his response was inappropriate 🤮🤮

The situation escalated when the owner cancelled my reservation unilaterally, suggesting I leave in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. I stood my ground and refused, as it was late and unsafe, in a city I did not even know. Leaving my friends being so I was already nervous enough. Shockingly, he even stated he could involve the police if he wanted to, to kick me out which made me feel deeply uncomfortable. I stood my ground and I said, he could if he wanted to because if I was in the wrong then I'd understand but I did nothing wrong. And I'm not scared of the police like I speak Spanish hello? But if it was during the day, I would've been long gone. And this is something that worried me for travellers who don't actually speak the language. This insignificant person thinks he can treat people this way, how dare you threaten to put people out in the street? Is this some power play you have in you? SHAME ON YOU.

In my opinion, the owner is not in a suitable mental state to manage a hostel, the guests also thought there was something not right with him and I even told him "sorry but do not take out your anger out on me if you've had a bad day". and his behaviour was unprofessional and hostile, acting out on a complete stranger, and YOUR CUSTOMER. I strongly advise others to avoid this hostel entirely if you're looking to be looked after. There are far better alternatives nearby for exemple Casa Pepe, for example, offers a much more reliable, location and welcoming experience! 🙂 If you gone through what I went though with this place, don't let your shine dim and continue to enjoy your holiday because that's exactly what I did and flew...

PLEASE BE WARNED TO NOT STAY HERE. I have had a horrible experience with this hostel, especially the communication. It started with them offering a shuttle on booking.com and Hostelworld, but upon requiring I got a rude response that it wasn’t available. Then I wrote them to ask them about my early arrival at 4am, which I wrote them more then 24 hours before and they never replied. As on hostelworld it mentions that the hostel has 24/7 reception I decided to try my luck to find a closed door. Another guest opened, so I could go in. I contacted the whatsapp again to ask where I could put my stuff untill check in. He told me that I could leave them in front of a room in the courtyard. I asked for another solution cause I had valuables, upon which the person became extremely rude telling me that I didn’t respect the rules and instructions. I explained calmly that I never received them, and that I tried to contact them but never got a reply. He told me I should have paid for the night, upon I which I stayed calm and kind and offered to pay, but if we could please find a solution. Upon this he replied that he would cancel my booking. And so he did, and reported me on Boooking.com upon severly trespassing his rules. Normally hostels have proper communication, they reply to messages, they offer a place to store luggage if you arrive early or late. Please don’t stay at this hostel. Horrible experience.

Also note that if you research a bit, you will find more people that had the same...
