So this new iteration of the classic Pata Negra looks very similar (classic dark wood/pub-ish/library-ish bar to the old one, but the vibes are different. The new pata is less drink-til-you drop and more great tapas and pub food in a very low key atmosphere. The bar has seemingly followed its fans to a new age, stage and location(s).

The sopa de cebolla (French onion soup) and croquetas de Jamon (Jamon serrano croquettes) are both fantastic--flavors and textures on point. The bocatas--arrachera y Jamon serrano--we're also terrific, though we were disappointed they were out of both the bocana de solomillo and the chocolate mousse we had hope to try for dessert. Overall a satisfying and comforting meal for a cold wet night.

The crowd was mostly Mexican (yay); with a number of Mexican/gringo couples (including us) mixed in. Parking was easy on a Sunday night; great dog watching if you sit in the window. We wish they'd get some barstools with backs--the crowd is mostly in their thirties and forties.

If you loved to party at the old Pata Negra in Condesa I the 200s, or even if you didn't, this is worth dropping by for a meal and a drink with chill vibes (at least...

OWNERS ROB THE EMPLOYEES!!

Employees are required to work overtime for no extra pay. The restaurant closes when the last customer leaves, and the staff must work for free until then.

Not just that, but tips are now deemed mandatory, and if a server does not obtain tips of 15% of their sales for the week, the remainder is deducted from their salary.

Don’t you see how insane that is? Tips were created to support servers who are underpaid by their greedy owners.

Now, those owners are stealing even more from the employees, and if the employee doesn’t “earn” enough tips, the owners take that money from that.

This business is criminal. The owners should be fired or forced to treat their employees like humans.

—

Really cool place, woody cozy concept and tables out. Staff is friendly. You can grab a cup of coffee for less than 1.5 USD. Cocktails start at 6 USD. The neighborhood is one of my favorites in CdMx. You're literally 2 blocks away from Reforma. It's quiet and perfect for conversation. Before Covid19 out used to be a good place for drinking and partying at night. Let's see how it goes after reopening. If you want to sit down to unwind and appreciate México City, then you should go...

Appears to be a late-night trendy spot, with a library themed decore. Stopped in for a quick beer. Turned into a mezcal tasting, that turned into a few bites. A bit pricey in the area of Zócalo, but worth a stop for the small bites. Bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable with mezcals. Even gave us a few recommendations for other stops based on our interests.
