Gorgeous setting but one of the most disappointing anticipated meals during our CDMX trip.
We started with the parker house rolls, the pea salad, and the shrimp and aged fish aguachile. The rolls were fluffy and tasty. The salad was bright and a surprise -shaved peas with flakes of the jamon. We also liked the tomato based aguachile with a lovely crunch from the fried plantains- a minor complaint was the almost overwhelming acid in this dish.
Next came the roasted vegetables with salsa macha - pleasant but as expected. Our party was divided on the red rice with crab, some really enjoying this, others wishing it was more flavorful and thought the crab mostly just tasted of fried breading. The pork rib was by far the worst and most expensive dish of our night - being about 85% fat (only a few millimeters of lab meat) and two ribs. The sweet corn mustard it came with was tasty, the bourbon glaze was not overly sweet, but most of this dish was inedible.

Overall the food was somewhere between 1-4 stars a plate. The place is beautiful (especially the back room with open kitchen) but we were unfortunately seated in the front where the bugs were distracting despite not noticing them elsewhere in the city this week. The service was quite lacking - without warmth or friendliness, not being checked on during the meal, and having multiple dishes cleared before we were actually finished. To top off the sterile feel of the night, it's hard not to feel nickle and dimed when it is one of the few fine dining places we've been to that charges for water and charges high prices for them. Spending $340MXN just on three small bottles of water when when had a large liter in our bags but were to polite to just pour our own just left us with a sour taste when the rest of our experience was not ideal. m with open kitchen) but we were unfortunately seated in the front where the bugs were distracting despite not noticing them elsewhere in the city this week. Wine list goes hard (I had a great orange wine, dry, tannic, mineral, a little touch of green apple) but the food goes even harder;
everyone needs the tomato and almond curd, so unique and flavors just add up layer after another, completely vegan but so creamy??? The green oil was herby and bring down the saltiness of the curd. Tomato itself is juicy and sweet enough to become its own star;
The grilled carrot/cauliflower/broccolini dish was also spectacular; the hummus is very light/airy than the traditional one and almost whipped, the fried chili oil was cherry on top and takes the total flavor profile to a next level.
I know everyone raves about the rice with soft shell crab dish here. The soft shell crab was perfect, the rice was tangy, creamy, salty and the lime balanced out. Pay attention to how much lime juice you may want for this though I can see people takes lime too far to overpower the taste of the whole dish.
The most popular dessert is the monkey bread, which is almost like a French toast to me but soaked in caramel sauce. My only small criticism is maybe the ice cream could be a little thicker and portion is a little smaller than what it may pair better with the bread.
It was an absolutely lovely and stunning meal, and I promised my server Leonardo that next time I am back to CDMX I will...

If you like Botanico you'll like this place. It's got all the same vibes: full of plants, spacious, fresa, saucy flavorful food, great light.
I went for comida on a Monday - it was pretty empty, but it's summer, so I imagine most of their clientele is gone.
We got the Kale salad and the Broccolini as starters. My only critique is that both of the dishes had a sweetness to them that was a little off-putting. The Kale salad was really tasty and perfectly dressed, but it was coated in (I think) candied sesame seeds that had a xylitol taste to them that I wasn't totally loving. The Broccolini had dried cranberries in the salsa macha that again just gave this hint of sweetness to the dish that I wasn't very into. But the Hummus that came under the Broccolini was really tasty and had a unique color - like when you make Hummus at home.
I had the steak, which I devoured. Perfectly cooked, perfectly fatty but also perfectly tender. And the mole and beans were such a nice little addition to give each bite a pop of flavor. The tortilla it came with was great to just sop up the rest of the sauce, but I think I would have preferred a slice of sourdough bread.
The person i was with got the "vuelve a la vida" some kind of tiradito with a couple kinds of fish and shellfish - I'm allergic, but the plate was beautiful, and he had every last bite, so I imagine he liked it!
I'm looking forward to coming back here and...
