Olivia Foundation — Attraction in Mexico City

The Olivia Foundation was such an inspiring find as we have been thinking a lot about my large-scale art, having a studio space to make it, and also possibly renovating an older place. This 1911 building was fully restored in the most hygge way. The lighting and attention to detail was stunning. The free show featured (among other amazing things) a Renoir piece also from 1911, and there was no line to stand behind—you could imagine the smell of the roses he painted oh-so-delicately. So we totally invaded Renoir’s personal space, ha. There was also a piece by the Mexican surrealist Remedios Varo that I was excited to glimpse up close. And of course the building was designed by the famous Mexican architect Alberto Kalach, who designed the massive and beautiful Biblioteca Vasconcelos.

As we wrapped up our time at the gallery rooftop, where a thatch of colorful, glowing mushroom art was installed, the rain began to really come down and we decided to head to Biblioteca Vasconcelos next thanks to the suggestion...
