I was excited to take my fiance to a celebration dinner last night at Casa Virginia after proposing to her earlier in the day. Our dining experience was memorably awful. The service was a disaster, lacking both attention and experience. On multiple occasions, our waiter, seemingly completely inexperienced, forgot requests we had just told him. The staff seemed completely lost. Our main dishes were cold, prompting us to leave our dinner early without finishing our entrees (Sea Bass and Risotto). We asked that the food be wrapped up and packaged so we could then take it home to reheat.
After paying the bill and asking multiple times for our packaged up food, we were forced to awkwardly stand in the main area of the restaurant having to again ask multiple times for our food which was now seemingly missing. In a panic, the staff hurried to package up something while laughing in our faces.
I have since tried to contact the restaurant and have not received any response. Their email address does not work.
Needless to say, this is all extremely disappointing for a meal that was over $2600 MXN. There are far better options throughout Mexico City where the quality of the food and staff are reflective of the prices...
Read moreI enjoyed the meal here, but then my husband and I got sick later that night. He ended up staying in the apartment all day after eating here without any energy to see Mexico City which was a pity. This was our first meal after arriving in Mexico City after traveling in Mexico for over a week. We were fine eating at taquerias so we didn’t expect to get sick from fine dining. Our previous meal was 6 hours prior so we suspect we got sick from dining at Casa Virginia. The server told us that the water was filtered, but it was warm so he later asked if we wanted ice which we said yes. We later noticed the Spanish-speaking party near us ordered bottled water so maybe we should’ve done that, but we also had cocktails and soda. My favorites were the cucumber mezcal drink that our server recommended, the homemade hibiscus mezcal ice cream for dessert, a deep fried fish dumpling appetizer, and the pate we got on the house. The gazpacho and short ribs were ok. I didn’t like the tostada’s tortilla. We had a friendly animated server that spoke English. The restaurant wasn’t busy on a Friday night. This was at the...
Read moreThis was our first meal in Mexico City, chosen hastily from a list of recommendations from our Airbnb host after a long day of travel, and we couldn't have picked a better choice. The interior is simple but romantic and intimate, without being pretentious or stuffy. Everything we ordered was delicious- tuna tostada, ratatouille, shrimp but the star for me was the burrata with huitlacoche. It was incredibly unique, accompanied with a lovely presentation- I am still thinking about it!
I generally don't bother with writing reviews, and favor hole-in-the-wall establishments over white tablecloths when traveling, but felt compelled to do so for the wonderful service we had. Everyone that visited the table was incredibly warm, patiently walking us through the menu, and conversing with us. While sharing that a birthday was one of the reasons for the trip, the staff went above and beyond in helping us celebrate, which was completely unexpected. Thank you so much for a...
