!!PLEASE PLEASE READ!!! DO NOT COME TO THIS HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE PLACE! THEY HAVE A DEAL WITH THE COPS TO GET YOU FINED AND OR ARRESTED! This establishment asks if you want it for here or to go. The place was packed and super hot. We did not want to pass up the experience of having pulque. So since they asked, we said to go. There were also more people taking it to go. So we felt comfortable. They served it in a styrofoam cup with a lid and straw. We walked out, took a sip, and we didn't even like it. So we kept walking through the city, not even two blocks away the policemen on bikes stopped us, asked what was in the cup, we answered honestly and said "pulque" which was mango flavored. The cup was FULL. They let us know that we were breaking a civil law with it and that each of us would be fined around 2,500 pesos EACH (we were 4) despite only having ONE cup and only TWO of us having tasted it. Obviously we were ABSOLUTELY unaware and let them know that we were in ignorance of such thing since THE ESTABLISHMENT ASKED IF WE WANTED IT TO GO! Well, the policemen told us that they SAW US ON THE CAMERAS SINCE WE LEFT THE ESTABLISHMENT AND WERE LOOKING FOR US! And if we wanted to we could pay their fine on the spot or go to the station. In all honesty in all the commotion and their technical jargon, I started to cry. Since there were people everywhere watching, two EXTREMELY KIND gentlemen came to help and let us know the policemen were trying to fine us about 2,300 pesos more than they should. It should be a max of 200 pesos. Naturally the policemen felt that their trap with this establishment was being seen and others were trying to help us, THEY DECIDED TO ARREST MY HUSBAND AND I !! They crammed us into a tiny patrol car that we did not fit into and took us to their offices. Once there they took us the the one in charge. That man told us that we had to pay 5,000 pesos or be held for 3 days. At this point we were in such distress since our flight is the next day in the morning. We let them know that all we had left was a hundred dollar bill and 1,000 pesos. They took it. All they told us after paying is someone will take your name and age, which they wrote LITERALLY ON A SCRAP OF WHITE PAPER. They asked for no i.d. or anything else! They just wanted money. As we walked out there were, kid you not, 6 other cups of pulque there! This place is a SCAM and should be shut down. Google doesn't allow to give a zero...
Read moreCool experience! I went at 11 o’clock on a Saturday and the place was less than 1/4 full. The jukebox was going and the pulque was flowing, although in my case, just a small glass of guava flavored. I was surprised how delicious it is! Once I got over the viscous consistency, which is not that big of a deal, I enjoyed the slightly sweet, cool, fruity glass of goodness
The young male server was very kind and explained the difference between curado (mixed with flavor such as guava or celery)and blanco (plain unadulterated pulque).
There was a full table of older tourists sitting and enjoying a glass with a tour guide who explained the cultural significance of pulque.
The murals are great, the music selection is great, the pulque equally awesome. A must do when you’re in the...
Read moreOmg we loved this place! It was already on our list. As soon as you walk in it all hits you in the face. The music, the loud chatting and laughter, the sweat and of course the super colourful paintings of mexican history on the walls. We met a couple of mexican chicos and they were super friendly. It looked like a local hangout cos we were the only tourists thete but we had a great time and got to practise our spanish! Pulque was weird but i think i like it. It was thick, gooey and sweet and comes in different flavours you can try in 30ml pots. Free. We tried the avena/oats and guava. Easy to drink if...
