[English and Spanish reviews]
Great churros! I came here with my cousins on a Saturday evening. The lines always look long and can go down the block, but they are very fast! The wait is worth it. There are two lines (to-go and dine-in). Both are quick and if the line goes down to the end of the block, you'll only wait about 15 minutes maximum to get in. This particular evening, we only waited about 10 minutes to get a table for 3.
Ordering is simple and the menu is straight-forward. Service is also fast. As most establishments in the city, there is no air-conditioning, so it does get a bit stuffy in the summer months. After we received our order (cinnamon sugar churros), we were also able to order to-go churros from our table. I easily paid with my foreign credit card. I did notice another foreigner tried paying with a $200 bill and had difficulty, so you might have trouble too if making a small order and trying to pay with a larger bill. Buenos churros!

We found out about this place through the Netflix show "Somebody feed Phil". Sadly, apparently the place has not been able to keep up with the level that the show portrayed. We were seated under a banner that says "Churros calentitos". How ironic, because the two churros we had were half-warm at best that they could only be called hot when you compare them with frozen meat that just come out of a freezer. The chocolate was alright, we ordered a large alongside the churros and they gave us a regular one, even though we verbally confirmed our order with the server three times.
But the most disappointing thing was the service, i.e. the lack of it. The place was half empty when we got there, and there were a lot of servers who were not busy at all. When we were ready to order, the three servers who were chatting in a corner a few tables away from us deliberately ignored us for a few minutes even when we stood up and gestured at them to come and take our order. And when one of them finally decided to come over, she looked away from us and pulled a face as if we had just committed a terrible crime. We felt very disrespected, and as mentioned above, we were genuinely surprised that she managed to get the order wrong.
When it was time to pay the bill, another server came over, grabbed our card and automatically added a 15% tip on the machine, without even asking us or showing us the amount that she was charging.
We are truly sad for the founders, because their beloved place is now run by staff who have no respect for customers, the food, the history and...
Read moreWhen in Mexico City make this one of your stops. On this street there are plenty of vendors, stores and restaurants and this one has a long history since it has been open for some time. Right outside the place there is a window where you can watch how the churros are made, they have their way set and they are fast to do them. Once you get in the doorway there are two lines, on the left you can wait to be seated so you can enjoy some churros and coffee or chocolate. On the right side the line is so you can order for takeout. We stopped a few times and ate inside; it does not take long for you to have a seat in the restaurant. Once the hostess takes you to your table, you are given a small menu that has what they offer and right away the server comes around to ask for your order. The place looks like it was built about a century ago, but it is well kept and clean. The servers wear their uniform perhaps how they used to wear them when they first opened the place. Your order is taken and it does not take long for you to get your order. As for the food, if you have a sweet tooth like I have, you will enjoy the churros; we also tried the Coffee with milk, the French Chocolate and the Chocolate Mocha. They were all good for me. And like I said previously, we came back...
