Good vibe, bad service.
The food was decent—I had the fish tostada, which was fresh and well-balanced. The drinks were creative and really tasty, but unfortunately, my friend got the wrong cocktail. When we mentioned it, the server insisted it was the right one, even though the flavor profile clearly matched a different drink on the menu. It was frustrating not to be listened to.
The service overall was a letdown. The servers seemed disorganized and struggled to bring the correct bill. While we were still counting our cash, one of them swooped in and took the money before we finished, missing my friend’s portion. Then they came back and told us we hadn’t paid enough. It got worse when the server turned on her phone flashlight to count the money—definitely killed the vibe.
The ambiance was great, but the service really took away from the experience. Honestly, the staff could benefit from some...
Read moreOverall great experience inside Tokyo bar however the host who greeted us outside was extremely unprofessional. Ironically my friends who had a separate reservation on a different date had the same experience. When we arrived, I said that we had a reservation, the host looked at me and basically responded by telling me no, I didn't. I proceeded to share my confirmation email from Open Table and when she saw that I had proof she just smiled and proceeded to direct us inside as if we were being an inconvenience to her. It was almost as if she were expecting some type of monetary compensation in order for us to get inside. If a bar like this has respected accolades of being in the top 100 I would hope they would value providing quality services both inside and outside the bar. Although we were treated well inside, I think it is important for folks to understand that yo will not be greeted in a...
Read moreThis place wants to be a music destination, with a DJ spinning from a collection of hundreds of vinyls from the '90s, however, they have a mysterious "no standing" and "no dancing" rule but magically chose to only tell the only people of color in the bar this rule while all white people dancing were allowed to do so. The music was so loud, why have it that way if people can't facilitate having conversation since we're not allowed to dance? They said dancing goes against their "concept" -- what kind of stupid concept of a MUSIC bar that doesn't allow you to joy the music itself is this? It's a beautiful spot but the service absolutely sucks and they should get over themselves, especially when they won't let you in even if you are 5 minutes past your reservation - regardless of how full it is inside. Skip giving Tokyo Music Bar and bring your...
