Turtle Bay — Restaurant in Oaxaca

Complete disappointment. Walked by this place after failing to get a table at El Cafecito, I was hungry so I decided to sit down and give their breakfast menu a try. Firstly, the servers did not seem to be willing to accept more customers even though the restaurant was half empty. They gave a look at the people waiting outside and simply walked away! It even happened several times after I sat down. The service was slow. It took me three tries to finally get my orders in. I ordered an assorted omelette that was 180 pesos, and some side dishes. When they finally brought my food after god know how long I had been waiting, it was such a let-down. And obviously overpriced! The portion is very small for the price you pay. The taste is standard, way below what I would call delicious. It was the first meal I had after not having eaten anything the night before due to travel complications. I probably would’ve chosen to starve myself had I known better...

Turtle Bay Restaurant will not disappoint if you are looking for an amazing meal. My significant and I started with the ceviche -- it was a massive portion and filled with so much flavour. Each bite got better and better. Then we moved to our mains. I had Camarones al Mango y Habanero (Shrimp with Mango and Habanero). I literally want them to bottle up that mango habanero sauce, it was absolutely fantastic. It was accompanied with a potato pancake and seasonal vegetables. My partner had a seasonal disk which spectacular as well.

Apart from the food the service was wonderful as well. Our server David was attentive to when we needed things and also gave us our space to enjoy. He was kind, patient and spoke English. He even allowed us to speak Spanish even though it was probably not correct.

2024 Update: This restaurant has gotten even better-one of the best places for fish in Puerto. We’ve visited twice on this trip. Tonight we had some tasty mezcalitas and started with a burrata salad, then ordered the tuna and mahi mahi specials. All was muy rico—the seared tuna was super fresh and tender 😁. Finished with a rosemary mousse with a papaya sauce that was not too sweet and hit the spot! Shout out to our mesero Orlando and the other staff who always take great care of us. Can’t wait to go back when we’re in Puerto next year!
