After five days in wonderful Oaxaca, we had a delicious final night dinner at Los Paco’s. Located in the Xochimilco neighbourhood. It is off the Zona Rosa beaten path but well worth the walk. The restaurant entrance is slightly hidden down a small alleyway. The restaurant itself is quite attractive with many tables under a large Palapa. What drew us to the restaurant was the opportunity to sample seven house made Moles. After being seated and ordering our delicious drinks (I had a tuna Mescalita which was my first), Laura, the owner, brought out a sample of the 7 moles and described each of them to us. She had a sample each mole, first with a piece of homemade tortilla, and then with a spoon to get the full flavours of the individual moles. The different flavour profiles of each mole were highlighted. They were all delicious. My wife and I then each chose to sample two of the moles on a plate with rice and delicious fried plantain. You can also sample three moles. My wife had the green and yellow mole, one with chicken and one with pork. I had the green mole and the capery stew mole with chicken. We both thoroughly enjoyed our choices. There are many other options on the menu, but the mole’s are the highlight. We had a fantastic meal and experience here and would highly recommend...
Read moreLos Pacos is an incredible restaurant and one you should absolutely go to if you want a real taste of Oaxacan food. The owners, Laura and Gabriel, are two of the sweetest people I’ve ever met and are fantastic hosts.
The only thing bad about Los Pacos is that it will absolutely ruin all other restaurants you visit in Oaxaca. Their moles are the best I’ve ever had, and you can tell that everything is made with so much pride and love.
If you like mezcal, they have many delicious options but their in-house brand is smooth with a delightfully smokey flavor.
If you’re here for breakfast, the chilaquiles are delicious - my favorite is with the mole coloradito. They use tlayuda instead of tortilla chips which makes them deliciously flaky and crispy.

Read moreAbsolutely the best mole experience here. It’s a lovely family business and the grandpa definitely made an awesome job bringing his wife’s best recipes to the restaurant. We tasted the 7 amazing moles and it was hard to pick 3 for our main dish since all of those were equally unique and tasty! Oh wow it was good!!! When I asked, the mezcal was recommended with the main dish and it was also the best mezcal I had on this trip. Although I’m not a dessert person but the dish similar to crème brûlée was something I want to eat every day. Thank you for all the recommendations! I’d be so sad if I went home without trying those. I’ll definitely be coming back here to eat more of amazing moles in my 10days stay here. Super delicious and made me so happy! The service here was beyond excellent and friendly. Perfect English...
