I expected a normal experience: order coffee, a pastry and/or a lunch. What we received was a lot lower than that. We barely got serviced.
Server 1 took our order, set out ONLY knives and napkins and gave us two cups of water. 45-50 minutes passed by, and still no coffee. We jokingly said to ourselves, “maybe they make the pastries fresh”. Server 2 was taking care of other tables on the patio, never once asked if we got what we needed nor did he refill the waters.
50 minutes hits and I went downstairs to ask the server 1 the status of our two coffees and two pastries. He asked “what are you missing?” I said, “everything..” and he said “oh”. I left to go upstairs and sat for 10 minutes. Server 1 comes up to say “excuse us for the order, but the pastry you ordered isn’t available” but not really an apology for making us sit there with only waters and never once checking up on us. Took them 5 minutes to get the two drinks and pastry. They made a mistake making my latte hot vs cold, which I asked for. Just tell me you forgot to put in the order. The coffee wasn’t great, I’ve had better. They didn’t give me a utensil to stir. So, I used the steak knife to stir. 🙃 One pastry we ordered was good, but it would’ve been better if the one I ordered actually got to me than someone else haha.
Anyways. Let’s talk about the Server 2. He watched us, sit there within those 50 minutes, seeing and serving everyone else got their orders- even the couple that ordered after we had waited 20 minutes in. While he watched us pull our laptops out, never once refilled our waters. After asking for our order..he never turned back up. This wasn’t until another couple came up to sit at a table. He lied to them, saying he didn’t speak English. They ordered fine, I think. They ate and they left.
The next group, was three white girls- European. 1000000% attention by Server 2 given to them. Again, still ignoring us, never checking in until I was staring at him. They tried speaking Spanish, but he switched back and forth with English and Spanish (I felt annoyed he lied to the previous couple who were actually trying to communicate). This guy flirted so much. I don’t know what he expected out of the three girls, but he was very interested in them. It’s hard not to eavesdrop when they’re being ridiculously loud. The girls turned out to be full of themselves and even dared to say everyone here treats them like “royalty”, purposely mispronouncing Spanish words and just joking about everything here. If the waiter were around, would they have acted and said that around him? Not even being mindful that other guests are around. Although this last bit, about visitors is not relevant to the restaurant, it made me feel worse about my experience here.
I don’t think it was fair that we were ignored while white people got the full attention and care. I watched. And maybe it is my fault for not checking sooner, but how can you forget, get my order wrong (and it was simple too) and not apologize? Only after the group of three white girls arrived, I guess he tried to impress them of his “service” and asked us if we needed anything else. I had nothing to say to them because it was proven they didn’t care. Here and there(maybe twice), refilled our waters while the group of three were there. I left feeling disappointed...
Read moreThis was our go-to breakfast place. My entire family loved the dishes they selected. Very interesting and varied choices can be had here; something for everyone. Their baking skills are michelin-star worthy. The tart crusts are buttery and flaky and melts in your mouth. They bake their own bread which is very delicious. They roast their own coffee, and make their own kombucha. I also found that they fuse local ingredients with european bread products (ciabatta, tarts, brioche, etc) There is something very interesting to try every time we visit. My son has ordered the Huitlacoche dona every time! Some pictures here, but we have also had the waffles con mermelada which used batter that creates layers, making the waffles crispy (yum), french toast that was 2 inches thick, avocado egg sandwich, and the crispy fried chicken sandwich with crispy tatertot-like potatoes like I've never had before.
This place simply offers great food, locally sourced.
The staff are very kind and attentive, and the cooking staff are willing to talk to you if you have any questions about how they prepare...
