Ah Carbón — Restaurant in Playa del Carmen

During our visit to Playa del Carmen, we decided to try Ah Carbon for lunch after noticing it on our walk. The restaurant had a casual vibe, and the online reviews seemed promising. We ordered a variety of dishes, including tacos al pastor, chicken quesadillas, a side of guacamole, and a beef burrito.

Unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations. The tacos were dry and lacked seasoning, the quesadillas were greasy, and the guacamole tasted like it had been sitting out for too long. Even the burrito, which should have been hearty and satisfying, was bland and forgettable. It felt as though no care or effort went into preparing the meals.

Additionally, the restaurant was nearly empty during our visit, with only two other tables occupied. This might have been an early indicator of the experience to come. The atmosphere felt lifeless, and the service, while not unfriendly, lacked enthusiasm.

Overall, this was one of the more disappointing meals we’ve had in Playa del Carmen. There are many other eateries in the area that offer flavorful dishes and a more inviting atmosphere. We hope that Ah Carbon can make improvements in the future to better serve...

Let me just start with the fact that this restaurant is so good I walked over six miles a day just to go eat there every night! When I think of Playa del Carmen my mind instantly starts flooding with images and the distinct delicious smell of Ah Carbon. My husband and I went to Mexico for our wedding in December 2020 and unfortunately found the resort food to be subpar. We wanted to find a nice local easy to get to decently priced restaurant to get some good authentic tacos. After walking up and down 5th Avenue twice! We found this Gem just a few steps off of fifth. We truly hit the jackpot in service, food. Their tacos are TO DIE FOR. I’ve been home for a month and still dreaming of their pastor tacos. We ended up coming here every night after the first for a total of ten nights!! The food is that good, and the service is so excellent we left the last night wig tears in our eyes feeling like we were leaving family! We seen this taco joint, thought we would pop in for lunch and try there tacos after reading fairly good google reviews. Maybe there chef was off today. We tried there tacos, nachos, burritos and guacamole. You could see no passion was put into there food what so ever. Plain dull food. We were the only customers apart from 1 other table in there which should off told us something before entering.
