I've been to both Mu locations dozens of times in my three years in Playa and I've recommended them countless times. It used to be so good, but the last few times it's been anything but.
I used to love their high quality burgers and phenomenal ribeye tacos and would gladly have given 5 stars but I've gotten their food to go twice in the last month and both times were just bad. Most notably, my husband got the ribeye tacos and they seemed to be skirt steak rather than ribeye, no sauce, and no bone marrow which is the main reason my husband ordered the tacos. They tasted like any tacos you could get on the street for 30p a piece.
We also had an experience a few months prior where we took some friends visiting from out of town and they upcharged us for wagyu we didn't order. I emailed in my complaint and never received a response.
When it's good, it's great but there have been too many bad experiences for us to want to go back, which is unfortunate because Mu was in my top 5 restaurants in Playa.
Update August 2025:
The last few times we've been in person have been great but once again, the takeaway fails. We went for two burgers and ordered them to go, and went for a walk while we waited. We circled back about 10 minutes later and I waited inside for a few minutes more for the food. The prices prices for the burgers were higher on the bill than on the menu linked here on Google maps, and 20 pesos per burger for takeaway.
When we got home my partners aguacatona was missing the chimichurri and the chicharrón. Since we ordered it without cheese, it was just a burger with avocado. Super disappointing for 275 pesos (255 + 20 takeaway fee)
I totally understand that we had walked away while they were preparing the burger so they couldn't inform us, but informing us before we left with the burgers or offering a discount for skipping two of the toppings would have gone a long way.
We will likely still eat there in person during the day (the red light above the bar is not nice for dining), but never again...
Read moreOk.. where shall I start? .. “The customer is king” is a foreign phrase in this place. The waiter will stand by your table until he receives at least 10% of tip but more likely repeating himself that actually 50% of tip is normal in Mexico and that this tip is given by any person on the table. Since we were two it would mean 50+50, so he wanted me to pay the food twice actually(??). I gave 9,5% of tip which in my country is a lot and actually very rare to receive, which I can tell after being a waitress for 7 years. I know people here are earning far less than me still I was taught the customer is king and should be treated with respect. I think it’s very disrespectful to stand by the table for minutes and over and over begging for more tip. Tip is a present and nothing that should be a must! I guess it’s my decision how much I wanna tip according to the quality of food and service. If the waiter doesn’t receive the tip he wishes for, he’ll not only stand for 10+ minutes at your table begging for more becoming mad as well but also go to the kitchen and his colleagues to complain, make fun of you and pointing with his fingers at you. Politeness unfortunately isn’t part of their vocabulary. I felt like a small piece of sh*t. Sin duda no se sintió del todo acojedor!
The food is great tho! But good food can’t make up for a...
Read moreWe had an amazing evening at Mu.Burgerhouse. It's not so easy to find a restaurant at Playa del Carmen that lives up to its Google ratings. But this one here is a must-go if you're looking for good burgers and good drinks. The food is just delicious, the drinks tasty and the atmosphere great.
We didn't have a reservation when we arrived at Mu.Burgerhouse. Like everyone else we stood in line and waited for customers to leave the restaurant. We waited about 15-20minutes until the floor manager gave us a seat at the bar where we could wait with drinks at least. The Margheritas (mango and strawberry) were really delicious!
After a while we were given a table and finally we could order some food. All the different burgers sound so delicious that we really couldn't decide. Our waiter was super helpful and treated us like friends. It was a great atmosphere. We ordered two burgers and a salad. The sizes were definitely sufficient.
Of course, the prices are a bit high. But that's totally normal at Playa del Carmen. We didn't mind because finally the quality of food matches the price. Nonetheless, presentation of the burgers could have been nicer. But that's just a tiny complain.
We would have come back for another night but unfortunately we found Mu.Burgerhouse only on our...
