This review is low completely based on the service that we received.
When we arrived, we had a short wait before a table become available. The young waiter took away the placemats and put two new ones down. The table was not wiped and as soon as he looked at me he had the "oh, I got caught" look and I asked him to sanitize the table because it had spills and food all over it.
A lady came and took our order, wine, BBQ Ribs, and Pollo de Blanca, and we enjoyed the atmosphere in the restaurant. It is a lovely place with a nice vibe. Every table was being served fresh bread but we were not unfortunately. Our food came out and we were now finished our glasses of wine, but the plates were dropped off and that is the last we seen from anyone until our plates were empty.
Not once did we get ask about our food, if we needed more wine, or wanted dessert. We waited 30 minutes after our dinner was done before someone (same waiter) came to our table. I told him that we we happy with the food , but disappointed that we didn't get any bread or more wine and he just laughed....no apology or anything.
For covid protocol, none of the staff wore their masks over their nose, as well as not checking temps at the door.
Heard this was a great place, but after our experience in particular with the one waiter, they won't see another...
Read moreLiterally the worst restaurant I can remember. Most of the food was inedible. Garlic bread. That was the one food item that was passable. Caesar salad was nothing like a true Caesar and the dressing tasted mayo-heavy. Pasta dishes were horrible. Could not eat. Fish tasted off. Yeah… it was a disaster. Ironically their menu has a pretentious message about how it’s a slow dining experience because they don’t prepare food in advance so if you want something fast take yourself to KFC or McD’s. Part of the reason it’s slow is because the staff stands around either chatting amongst themselves or looking at their phones rather than paying any attention to the patrons. Restaurant had zero customers when we arrived and added only two tables before we left. An almost empty restaurant the entire time and still, inattentive service. I can deal with that, as long as the food is decent. Unfortunately it was literally the worst ever. Such a disappointment, especially after reading the reviews. The place was so awful I’m left questioning the legitimacy of the reviews. Bottom line: if you want some mediocre garlic bread, give this place a try. Otherwise avoid GnarlyCharly’s like the plague. There are so many great restaurants in Playa del Carmen which you can...

Food: Caeaar salad was huge. Visually appetizing. They use stale bread for croutons. Grilled and whole slices — love that they don’t waste it. Cons, big cuts of tomatoes on a Caesar? Different but okay — had to cut them up. Huge rolls of cheese — while I love cheese (I am from Wisconsin, land of beer & cheese) but really not necessary for a salad that comes with cheese. I paired it nicely with the basket of bread Dressing is definitely homemade and good, light on the lemon or was not added. Salad is undressed — nice and not nice. Who wants to toss their own salad.
Panzotti: big serving size (6) I got the mushroom sauce — mushrooms were delicious (prolly some of the best I’ve had around this area) Pasta was slightly undercooked, another 30 seconds would’ve made it much better — left the filling a little less desirable
Atmosphere: very chill and relaxed, pretty lighting, and comfortable seating. I really like how you can half you table sitting outside (for the smokers) and half inside.
Service: Very attentive and quick (was around 6pm so a little early for dinner.
Would go back, there were many many items on the menu I...
