I visited Call of the Wine recently, expecting an enjoyable evening, but the experience was ruined by a deeply upsetting incident. A staff member named Eduardo began harassing me, making inappropriate comments and invading my personal space. What started as discomfort quickly escalated into a situation that felt unsafe and intimidating.
Eduardo’s behavior was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. His persistence, coupled with a disregard for boundaries, left me shaken and vulnerable in a place where I should have felt comfortable and respected.
What made matters worse was the restaurant management's inadequate response when I reported the incident. Despite raising my concerns, they failed to take meaningful action or assure me that the issue would be handled appropriately. It felt as though my complaint was dismissed rather than taken seriously.
Harassment and creating an unsafe environment, especially for women, cannot be tolerated in any setting, let alone a restaurant that relies on creating a welcoming atmosphere. Call of the Wine must take urgent steps to address this issue, starting with thorough staff training, a clear zero-tolerance policy, and ensuring accountability for anyone who violates customer safety and dignity.
I hardly recommend anyone to avoid this place. Until the management takes meaningful action to ensure a safe and respectful environment, it’s simply not worth the risk. Everyone deserves to feel secure and respected while dining out, and my experience at Call of the Wine was the opposite of that.
Response to the comment of the restaurant:
You better have good video evidence, my friends, because we have multiple recordings of what happened. It’s clear that your employee was either on drugs or drunk, acting violently towards us for absolutely no reason. This comment demonstrates how irresponsible your management is, attempting to hide the truth.
In fact, we are taking legal action, and the fact that your employee made false accusations to the police is a criminal act. Let me assure you, for malicious individuals like you, we have both the time and resources to ensure that people in Playa del Carmen are safe and that incidents like this never...
Read moreThis place looks so cozy that the only question you can ask yourself, why am I not having dinner there? Then we decide to try it, just to find out that this is a genuine hidden gem in Playa. It has indoor AC seating as well as outdoor patio sitting with live music from very talented local musicians.
This is not the typical 5th Avenue restaurant where they don’t care for the food quality since most of the customers are not coming back anyway. This is the real deal.
This place is not only a wine lover’s paradise; is way more than that. Excellent food and drinks, and with drinks I mean lemonades and orangeades that are not even in the menu, our waiter recommended the passion fruit (maracuya) one, and it was just delicious.
We got salmon fillet with creamy lemon sauce and it couldn’t have been any better, also ordered anchovy’s pizza which comes with thin crust and personal size, and spaghetti bolognesa and they were amazing as well, it was a fantastic dinner.
Even we did not order any charcuterie, I could see that this was the house specialty so next time we come here we will definitely order one.
At the end we couldn’t tell if this was a wine store with restaurant or a restaurant with a wine store, but what we definitely could tell is that his place is amazing, very cozy, food quality excellent and our waiter Luis was checking on us all the time.
Definitely recommend...
Read moreThis is a pleasant spot, has indoor AC seating and an outdoor patio to sit also. Small selection of foods. The wine menu was extensive. We are not wine connoisseurs and felt that our particular waiter looked down on us for that. We do enjoy a varied taste in wines and were excited about trying this place. We were buying wine by the glass, enjoying the live music. However, we almost had to beg for each glass of wine, after the third glass each, we were overlooked repeatedly by our waiter for those buying by the bottle. After getting quite frustrated my husband asked for the check and said we needed it as we could no longer get any service. The waiter snapped back. He brought the check to our table and seemed somewhat apologetic. However, if you are here and not sniffing/gargling and commenting on the aromas of the wine you may not be as welcome as...
