I will tell you a tale of footsore travelers, overwhelmed by the overload glitz of 5th Ave with the river of tourists and the constant bark of people demanding you come spend your money in their establishments. Those places feel like money traps on steroids. They are loud and flashy and packed and they feel like they have their hands in your pockets before you’ve set foot in the door. And then you’ve got a place like Chilito Rojo, literally a few blocks away that not only feel ten times as nice, but the food is also grand. My wife had shrimp taquitos that were perfect (she’s hard to please) and I had some chicken enchiladas that were excellent. The staff were not only helpful and welcoming, but spoke great English, which honestly was a help to us as I had dietary requirements that needed a bit of explaining. We were tired.
