Love this place for Canadian style food from home, I have heard Mexican is also good, looked great! We will go back to try that too! Great if you want a Canadian or Mexican style breakfast, fruit included with some breakfast, great prices. They also have specials on various days, wings, ribs etc. Waiters speak English, and English menus are available. Lots of expats and Canadians hang out there. They also have an English paperback library, that I believe you can swap books. Food was very good, boneless chicken was freshly battered white meat chicken, not minced frozen mystery meat. Fish and chips were very good as well. They even have poutine or Chilli cheese fries. Their rib special looked great on the poster and reasonable prices. Sundays they have a breakfast buffet $165 pesos! Lunch was so good we went back for breakfast. Their English muffin breakfast sandwich had a perfectly poached egg on it. They were out of english muffins so I had it on a nice croissant. The only downfall was no free coffee refills, and coffee cups are small. I have not seen any place that gives free coffee refills, may not be a thing here. This is our new favorite spot! Waiters are helpful to recommend...

Read moreWe saw that Barlovento was busy with tourists and assumed it would be a good choice. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a mistake.
We ordered one Chile Relleno and one guacamole. The guacamole came in a small bowl, but more than half the space was taken up by the avocado pit—seriously? The Chile Relleno was just okay.
Less than an hour after eating, we started feeling unwell, and by that night, we were so sick that we had to seek medical help. We ended up spending over 3,800 pesos on medical bills and had to stay in for two and a half days recovering. Our planned day trips were canceled, and for the next three days, we stuck to a bland diet of plain bread because we weren’t able to eat anything else. After this experience, we’ve been too afraid to eat out anywhere in the area.
It seems like Barlovento is popular because it caters to English-speaking tourists and expats, and people come here to mingle and eat non-local food. Maybe those dishes are safer because of high turnover, but based on our experience, I would be very cautious about ordering traditional dishes here.
