I love this area of MX, Porta Morelos for its simplicity, the fresh as you can get fish and shrimp and beachside service!
This area of MX beaches is one of my favorites. More laid back and quiet compared to Cancun or Playa del Carmen. A cozy little town with great places to eat, drink or chill on the beach. BTW if you're ever here during Dec. they have a really nice Christmas Market in the center of town.
Cayuse is my favorite place to eat and hang out for the day of all of Porta Morelos. It is a outdoor sandy floor bar and restaurant with great views of the ocean.
The staff are fantastic. Friendly, quick and helpful when trying to decide on what to eat. Even the cooks in the kitchen were hilarious making the day fun making cat noises, we loved it.
We had the fresh caught snapper fried, cooked to perfection! Served with picante, rice, beans and tortillas. Delicious.
The Ceviche was perfect as well, I love the lime and pepper version and this one did not disappoint.
The chicken burrito was huge and delicious, I so love when the wrap has a little crust/char on it. Stuffed with tons of chicken, not a bunch of filler.
Something to know as well, you can book snorkeling trips right at the restaurant, ask for Christian, fantastic guide, safe and very professional. Knew his stuff too, we saw turtles, sharks, rays, pompano, amazing to see all these and more in one snorkel day.
Will I come back here? Oh yes, this is my sooo Go To anytime while in Porta.
There is some parking inside the restaurant wall, more on the street and a lot next door that sometimes is open...
Read moreWe came here twice during our trip to Mexico. The first time we just ordered drinks and ceviche. That was all we had planned. The food was excellent. Our mixed ceviche had lots of flavor and the shrimp cocktail was uniquely citrusy. While we ate our waiter Felipe informed us that if we wanted to go snorkeling in the reef he could arrange it for 300 pesos each. It turns out the restaurant operates a boat with a certified guide.
I was extremely skeptical, but we decided to put down a small deposit and come back the next day, and we were so glad we did. Our guide Jose Luis was very friendly and knowledgeable. We learned the reef is a national park in Mexico and is protected from all fishing. The reef was beautiful. We snorkeled through one section of reef and then got back in the boat to go to another location. We were in the water for about two hours total. For a few more pesos Luis sent us pictures of everything through WhatsApp. It was an awesome time.
After returning from the reef we had a seafood feast laid out for us. The food was excellent. Our seafood platter had a variety of tasty dishes and the Tikinxik fish was delicious. Felipe showed us the fish before it was prepared so we know we received real red snapper. If you are unaware, red snapper is one of the most commonly faked fish in restaurants and if you order it you have almost no chance of actually getting what you ordered. Not the case here.
I cannot recommend this place enough. It was a true highlight of our trip. Stop in and see Felipe when you are in town. You won't be...
Read moreBooked a two-hour snorkeling tour at this place, being promised two 40-minute snorkeling stops at the reefs. Departure was on time, at 8am, but after a 30-minute stop at the first reef, we were brought back to the shore at 9am. First, the owners told us we had one "long" stop instead of two short ones to justify the early return. After some discussion, though, they agreed to ride me to the second spot on the reef, which was, as I realized upon return and checking recorded video timestamps, was only 20 minutes of snorkeling. Overall, the "2-hour tour" lasted from 8:05am to 9:40am, including going back to the shore twice and time spent arguing with the owner, with 50 minutes max swim time on the reef.
We saw a few barracudas and a ray, the reef was really nice, and the boat captain was helpful, but the overall experience with this company was bad, and I can't recommend...
