Ok, so we haven't gone yet( We will see you on our honeymoon on Feb 20th) but I'm noticing that all the negative comments are from people who relied on a taxi driver in a foreign country to help them out and not try to make some extra money on the side. Don't act like a dumb tourist, don't expect to get a 25 cent fish taco like your mom and dad did in 1993 and don't go into it expecting to be catered to. Go into it with a little bit of appreciation of the service personnel there and I bet you have a better experience! Now I'm mainly commenting to give my experience in booking a beach day at this location so far and to help others out with the info I've found in case you are considering this location.
I think those of you who are scared to show up here on a whim after reading some Google reviews, should know that you can book the entire day through Trip Advisor or Viator. $66 USD, gets you all day drinks, lunch, a 40 min massage, a private beach, and it's nearby other places. They apparently limit their crowds now to 35 people a day. They can also arrange a taxi for you from port or for around $50-$75 you can get a scooter or a golf cart at the port and not have to rely on anyone else and can explore. Apparently the city of Mahahual rents scooters too. Or if you like walking, it's about a 45 min walk from the port based on Google maps. Yes, i've done a lot of research. They also have a 4.4/5 star review on Tripadvisor, and that's from others like us who booked the whole day.
If you're looking for the oiled cabana boy to feed you grapes by hand on the beach while harps play, this might not be your place. But if you are there for a day on a cruise, it's a nice central location, where you can explore or hang out on the beach. I'm looking forward to spending my day here with my new husband, just a beach, a few drinks, a nice massage and enjoying not freezing in the...
Read moreGreat for a day at the beach off the cruise ship. From the cruise port we caught a taxi that charged $5 per person to this beach front restaurant. The taxi operates with some sort of local tourist company and also collected $10 per person for entry to the restaurant beach bar. That price includes use of the beach, loungers, and one small drink. We stayed about 3-4 hours. Pros: Pretty clean beach with netted area for swimming. Three ships in port today and it wasn’t very crowded here. Reasonably priced drinks and food. Quesadillas were pretty good. Adequate facilities including beach showers and bathrooms Cons: Hundreds of local vendors walking the beach (like most beaches in Mexico) Showers and bathrooms are very…rustic.
We really had a great time at this place and would go back. The taxi operator also offered us a $40 per person option that was a little further away that I believe included some food and possibly some nicer facilities, but this was perfect for us. All we wanted was a beach, a bathroom, loungers...
Read moreWe were taken here by the taxi in our cruise trip when we went on a port excursion. The beach is more like a logoon. The water is clear torquoise, no waves, and definitely fun to be in. However, the place itself is terrible. The toilet was flooded, and shower was dirty. Our kids wanted to eat something, so we ordered two items. After a long wait, they brought the wrong items and insisted that is what we had ordered. When refusing to accept the item, the staff, including the manager, insisted on making us pay for the items or call police. The attitude was very rude, service was pitiful. "You are not in your country" is what they had to say when asking logical questions about customer service. The nearby beaches are better, but I couldn't vouch for the service. Please...
