Visited while in port with a carnival cruise. Easy transport 4.00/person via taxi. About a 5 min cab ride. Our cabbie didn't charge for the two kids with us though they were counted in the number. You don't need a reservation, we didn't have one. We got tables but there were loungers. The beach water is clear, calm, comfortable temp and great for non swimmers. Vendors came around occasionally but a polite thank you was enough if you didn't want something. Food portions were great. I'm from Texas so I felt it could have used a lil more seasoning but otherwise taste was good. Not a drinker so drinks were large and satisfying to me. We enjoyed the various vendors around here much better than our next stop which was Cozumel as these shops actually had handmade trinkets not mass produced things, not everywhere near the beach accepted cards but Krazy Lobster does. Take small bills in case you wanna buy stuff from vendors they might not have change. Use the bill break machine near the casino aboard ship . You will likely find something you wanna buy. It rained twice while we were here but never got wet under the thatched canopies, the wifi was free as were the kayaks as advertised. Def will go back ! Great place if you have lil kids and can't afford the excursions on the ship. Liked this lil port much better than the Cozumel port. The people here were very friendly and helpful even if you didn't buy stuff. No charge to get on the beach area but they want you to buy food from them. That was okay. We were hungry and wanted food anyway!! I didn't need the restroom our party did use them but I didn't hear complaints. I just needed to wash sand out of our shoes. There was an outside shower area on the side of a building for this which was convenient. The menu is online and prices are published. I got grilled shrimp it was good and came with rice and a small salad, daughter got combo ceviche. It was enough for two ( a lil heavy on the onions for my taste and needed just a lil more salt )but otherwise good. It probably gets crowded if there a lot of boats in port. This can be looked up online and you can let that determine if you wanna make a reservation. If you are entitled and need everything pristine and perfect take one of the cruise excursions. These are hardworking folks in a small village trying to make a living. Service was quick...
Read moreKrazy Lobster became our go-to hangout during a two-week stay in Mahahual, especially after our hotel (Pronoia Casa de Playa) had no usable beach. This place offers the best beach setup on the malecón — clean, swimmable, and full of family-friendly features.
There are two playgrounds, which kept my toddler happy and engaged, plus kayaks, floating beds for kids, lounge chairs, and beach tables — all included and well-maintained. They also have a reliable parking lot, which made things easy for us every day.
Their caldo de pescado and caldo de camarón were my daily go-tos, and the lobster was also great. They consistently had the best food deals in town, making it ideal for longer stays. And the cherry on top: they have the best and most reliable Wi-Fi in Mahahual, which made it a perfect place to work remotely while enjoying the beach.
I also had the best American and Mexican Mother’s Day celebrations here — a really special experience. A sweet vendor couple with two of the cutest, most well-behaved kids even helped fix my daughter’s braids, which made the day even more memorable. Please support those local vendors — they’re kind, skilled, and add to the positive community vibe.
The team is led by a strong, capable woman who manages the administrative side of things while the men handle the floor. It’s always refreshing to see women in leadership roles, and it shows in how smoothly things run.
The only downside was that the service shifted slightly once they realized I was paying in pesos instead of dollars — not ideal, but not enough to ruin the experience.
Weekends are the best time to come — especially Saturdays and Sundays when there are no cruise tourists. It’s peaceful, local, and beautiful. And if you want something other than seafood, Margarita House next door is a solid backup.
All in all, Krazy Lobster was the heart of our trip — family-friendly, affordable, well-run, and full of good people and energy. Highly recommended for anyone...
Read moreThe food was good. The octopus ceviche was fantastic. Beef nachos decent. Our traveling companions had 2 bottles of Coke and $9 entrees. Both places we stopped attempted to inflate the bill past what the menu prices stated.
Krazy Lobster was no exception. I added up what we all purchased off the menu, and was prepared for the bill. What should have been an $83 bill came out as $115 on their math. They stated that was without the tip. I immediately knew that wasn't right. The prices on their bill matched what the menu stated. But their fuzzy math added an additional $32 onto the bill for the actual total. We didn't use any of their "free/complimentary services or drinks" we stopped in and only ordered off the menu. He reiterated again my numbers were wrong. I had him bring a menu, and we added up exactly what we had. It came to exactly what I had already added up prior to the bill arriving. He suddenly lost understanding of English all of a sudden. Be careful, and add up exactly what you order and the price before their taking the menu away. Most people take the total to be correct math, apparently you can't do that in Costa Maya all the time. The receipt was hand written, versus a printed computer receipt which adds it up correctly and breaks down all charges.
It's a shame a business which is so highly recommended engages in such...
