Very nice place, but the food was nothing special and the service was quite bad...
We took 2 pizzas, the condiments were generous but the dough wasn't that good (I know what I'm talking about). I took a pizza with eggplants and they were raw: you never put raw eggplants on a pizza because they don't have the time to cook in the short time it takes a pizza to cook. Eggplants are toxic raw and just bad. We asked for an extra ingredient and on the bill it was a third of the price of a pizza...
But mostly the service: I wasn't happy about my pizza, I wasn't happy about having to wait an extra 15 minutes before someone realised we asked for the bill and came to take care of us, and when I paid by card they asked if I wanted to add a tip: I said no and the server asked quite shocked: no tips? I said no again, and very politely said thanks and goodbye. He walked away without saying thanks or goodbye. I found it very rude.
In general, I found that Tulum is a very expensive place where people seem greedy with tourists: they look at you as an ambulant wallet. They get upset if you refuse to give them tips because service was cheap or very expensive for what it is. I give tips if I think it's deserved, while here it seems they take it for granted.
I won't come to Tulum anymore and won't suggest...
Read moreNo one talks about the lasagna at this place. Yes I know this is about pizza but now the real star here is the lasagna. I loved dining here because for some reason they had the mosquitoes under control they were not biting us even though we were sitting outside it was so comfortable they had fans going and it felt cool. my group ordered mostly pizzas except for my child, he ordered a lasagna. Out of curiosity, I decided to have a little taste, and my eyes widened. The sauce used in this recipe was different than the ones used in the pizza. This was a complete sauce. It was perfectly balanced. They had the perfect amount of salt and sweetness and it was fully rounded with the meat that was in it, it is a lasagna that I dream of and I can't believe I had it in Mexico. I've never had one like it in the US. We were not sure how big the pizzas were going to be so we each order our own, which is a big mistake. These are large pizzas are made for sharing they're not individual size which we had no idea but no regrets. I love that this place is open very late and it was literally right behind our Airbnb which I had no idea you just have to walk through a very questionable dark alley. Try not to get eaten by a jaguar but it's worth it, the lasagna is great I highly...
Read morehonestly??? this is the best pizza i’ve had outside of italy. oh, and it’s cheap af! the ingredients are fresh, the cheese is high quality, the sauce is light yet flavorful, and the crust crispy on the ends. i wish pizza mangler was in my neighborhood, but sadly it stays in tulum where it is needed. like a lil pizza super hero saving the day.
the environment of the restaurant is also on point! pizza mangler feels very fancy, rustic chic, and it is certainly romantic. the restaurant is entirely outside in a gravel garden. wooden chairs and tables are surrounded by trees and greenery, and there’s covered seating as well. the first night my friend and i went it started raining in the middle of our meal so we moved to a covered table and we stayed dry.
each pizza is about 13-14 inches (36 cm) and is enough to feed 3 not very hungry people, 2 regular hungry people, or, my favorite, 1 very hungry person. but the best best part? the price: $120MX for every one of their pizzas (that’s $6.50US / €5.50EU / £4.80). all the pasta dishes and salads are $100MX (i’ll let y’all do those conversions).
if you’re in tulum definitely stop by, you and your wallet...
