If I could give this place 0 stars I would. This place is a disgrace to Mexican cuisine. Iâve been to a great amount of restaurants (mostly local restaurants) that truly sell authentic Mexican food, this place is NOT one of them. Youâre going there strictly for the experience of the place. Itâs a nice looking place and thatâs how theyâll catch you. To start we were asking for simple guacamole, the waitress did try to offer me the second guacamole and I asked her if there was any type of meat in it. She said no, so i decided to try it. When we got the English menu we noticed pork rinds and crickets was included with that. Quickly, I tried looking for our waitress to swap the order back to regular guacamole. We called someone who was not our original waitress, our waitress then let us know that we wouldnât be able to change it because she put the order in already. I told her I wouldnât eat it because I do not eat meat, and thatâs specifically why I asked her. She told me she will check but canât guarantee.. I was rubbed the wrong way just by that encounter. She brought us chips and guacamole with ONLY 4 CHIPS! She didnât offer us any more chips. She did not come back to the table the entire time, the wait was about an HOUR for entrees. I ordered the salmon and my partner the eggplant tacos. It was laughable what we received. Not only did we have to wait an hour but the food was completely terrible. The eggplant was just that, eggplant and tortilla. No type of seasoning, nothing. The salmon, had such different flavors on it which was nothing like what she had described. The only thing me and my partner ate was the guacamole with our 4 chips and corn. Our waitress finally came to check up on us 5 mins after we got our food to see if we were okay with it. We vocalized to our waitress the complaints that we did have especially being that we came to this place specifically to celebrate my birthday. We told her we would pay for the food and just want to leave. It was 11PM and we still havenât had a decent meal after a long day. A waiter (not our personal waitress) who saw that we werenât pleased with our experience tried to offer a shot or cake to help with the experience. He did apologize on the waitress behalf. We told him it wasnât his fault because it truly wasnât, our waitress shouldâve been more detail oriented especially being that it was NOT at all busy. After the waiter came to talk to us, our waitress came with the bill. Who tried to charge us for the guacamole with the pork that she offered us that I refused due to the pork. My partner expressed his complaints to her so she could understand the reason as to why weâre not pleased with our service. In the midst of him explaining this to her and her charging us completely for a meal we barely touch. We spent a total of $1,220 pesos. They had the audacity to not only over charge for a meal that is NOT authentic Mexican food, but also ask if we would be leaving tip for the service. Just to show you in full the type of service that is. I do not like complaining about restaurants, especially ones who are trying to earn their money, but Iâd much rather give it to small local authentic true Mexican restaurants rather than those that are just created to lure in tourists and offer mediocre food for double what you would pay at an authentic spot with much more flavor and love actually brought in the food.
Just into perspective Iâve spent $600 pesos with great tip in a beautiful spot near by Tulum downtown with great food and amazing service that youâd be way better off...

It is a place where every element is carefully curated to awaken your senses and connect you with the deeper essence of Mexican culture. The energy in the room was palpable, from the warm, earthy tones of the décor to the flickering candlelights that set the stage for a transformative experience.
The cocktails here are more than drinks; they are an art. I began with what I believed to be Mezcalita Agavera, a mezcal masterpiece recommended to me that seemed to carry the spirit of the earth in every sip. Each ingredient harmonized perfectly, creating a balance of smoky, sweet, and citrusy flavors that danced on my palate.
Agaveroâs kitchen, too, offers a profound experience, even for me as a vegetarian. Every dish feels like an offering to the gods of flavour. We couldnât stop eating dish after dish, every dish was like a revelationâfresh, vibrant, and layered with authentic Mexican spices that ignited my senses.
One of the highlights of the evening was the cacao ceremony. There was a moment of stillness as we shared in this ancient tradition, honouring the sacred cacao and allowing its warmth to open our hearts. It was a beautiful reminder of the connection between nature, nourishment, and community.
To add to the magic, someone in the room was celebrating a birthday, and instead of the usual song, the DJ played a deep, rhythmic version of âHappy Birthdayâ that filled the air with joy. The entire bar joined in, creating a collective celebration that felt like a blessing to be apart of.
With every sip, every bite, and every note of music, Agavero transported me to a place of spiritual elevation. Itâs more than just a cocktail bar..itâs a sanctuary where flavours, traditions, art, and sounds unite to...
Read moreSuper disappointed. Came in the summer. It was good, not great but a good venue (although it was quiet). Returned with family today, and it was busy but the food was terrible. Most people couldnât eat theirs. It took an hour and half to come. The fish of the day was tough, dry and rubbery (inedible). The risotto was dry, crunchy and flavourless (and about 3 spoonfuls - not that it mattered as we couldnât eat either portion). The octopus was a completely different dish than what was ordered. The sides didnât come but they couldnât find the waiter that took our order. I never complain about food, but this was very bad. I spoke to the manager and begged him to try it, but he just said they had to get extra staff in and they were very bad and they knew the food was bad - they were really struggling which is fair enough but they removed about 10% off the bill after I spoke to the manager at length a few times. Anyway, it is what it is, but I think when food is as bad as that, and you acknowledge things are bad you have to do something a bit more. I felt bad as the waiter was fuming there was not service but the service charge was bigger than the discount. It didnât help that after I spoke to the manager, all staff avoided our table for 20 mins and additional drinks we ordered never arrived. I explained and he accepted it as he knew the food was terrible. Everybody apologised multiple times which is fine, but that acceptance of poor service and quality should come with...
