I wish I could give this place negative stars. Really disappointed. I have eaten food from all over playa and loved most of it but I actually thought I might be sick from this seafood. The fish ceviche was fishy and putrid tasting. The fish, shrimp and octopus tasted like they had been poured out of a bag onto our plate, without being washed let alone marinated or seasoned. All the seafood had a slimy feel and pungent smell that was unsurprisingly matched by the taste. My margarita on the rocks was served blended (still the best part of my meal). The fried tuna was chewy and completely over cooked as well as entirely unseasoned, as if they thought that dropping cubes of three day old tuna into hot dirty fry oil would be all the flavor they needed. The wait staff was pushy and asked how the food was repeatedly until I said it was good. He then was pushy about our tip amount and said I could not tip less that 10%. When I said that I would not leave a tip at all in that case he said that yes 5% was ok. So the food was horrendous but maybe the atmosphere made up for it? No. Music was blasting so loud you could hardly hear the person across the table from you, which for us was only a 2 person table so our voices didn’t need to carry very far. This was by far the worst food I have eaten in Playa del Carmen or Mexico in general. Do yourself a favor and go to Los Hijas de Tostadas if you want good fresh seafood for a...
Read moreI think this is a chain with places in Cancún, Playa del Carmen and Tulum, but I decided (against my own rules) to give it a go because it looked nice and because the menu offered tuna tostadas. We got two of these, and they lived up to our expectations (albeit the mustard habanero sauce in one of them was slightly salty and not as spicy as I've wished).
We were a company of four and ordered, apart from the tostadas, some guacamole (pretty basic one), a chicharrón de pescado (battered fish accompanied with fried beans, rice, and sauces); fried rice with fish and octopus, a beef hamburger, and fish aguachile. These dishes were OK, but not out of this world. We were a bit disappointed by the lack of spiciness in the aguachile (We've tried beautifully spicy red and green aguachiles at other places).
The menu is 42 pages long, which makes it difficult to navigate, especially that they only have it in digital form.
The main issue with this restaurant is that although it's a bit expensive, service (at 15%) is not included. This means it must be covered by...
Read moreLarge menu in English, prices above average. Definitely cheaper options but being a Tuesday with a number of restaurants closed, and already had eaten at nearby El Camello Jr (seafood restaurant) the same day, we opted to try Los Aguachiles. For those that do not eat seafood, there is only one taco made with meat stew (pork chilorio) My boyfriend said it was tasty. The popeye shrimp and tempura fish tacos were fine, although the sauces won the game. Shrimp did not taste as fresh as El Camello Jr or El Milagrito. Quick and friendly service....
