Giardino toscano — Restaurant in San Miguel de Allende

It was my birthday and last evening in San Miguel and I happened to stumble across this gem of a place on my way back up the hill to my room at Casa Frida. It was late afternoon and honestly I just had a drink as I admired the atmosphere of the place and rested from my walk. I had reservations at a very nice rooftop restaurant for the evening but knew this is where I wanted to have my last dinner in San Miguel. So that evening, after watching the sunset nearby, I came in for dinner.

I'm not quite sure how more people weren't there, but I enjoyed the ambiance, and intimacy of the place. The music was great and the owner, chef Gaetano from Italy was amazing and kind. I ordered the pizza which he prepared himself in the brick oven nearby. It was phenomenal and the crust was crispy and perfect. I saved a little room for dessert since it was my birthday and had the home made tiramisu. It almost stole the show! Delicioso! Do not sleep on this magnificent restaurant. It was my favorite restaurant in San Miguel and a perfect ending to my stay and birthday. Thank you, Gaetano! It was a pleasure meeting you, my friend. Until next time.

My sister and I ate here for the first time tonight. The vegetarian pizza, with a beautiful thin crust, was the best we've had in SMA in 3 years. The lasagna bolognese was delicious and its pasta was light, melt in the mouth...handmade by the owner! The service was perfect. Not only that, but the owner/chef/server feeds the local homeless cats, two of whom visited, AND has 13 dogs at home, bless his heart!! Our total bill for pizza, lasagna, 2 bottled waters, and 4 glasses of cabernet sauvignon, was 916 pesos or US $23 each. We plan to return many times.

Mi hermana y yo comimos aquí por primera vez esta noche. La pizza vegetariana, con una hermosa masa fina, fue la mejor que hemos comido en SMA en 3 años. La lasaña a la boloñesa estaba deliciosa y la pasta era liviana, se derretía en la boca... ¡hecha a mano por el dueño! El servicio fue perfecto. No solo eso, sino que el dueño/chef/camarero alimenta a los gatos callejeros locales, dos de los cuales vinieron de visita, ¡Y tiene 13 perros en casa, bendito sea! Nuestra factura total por pizza, lasaña, 2 botellas de agua y 4 copas de cabernet sauvignon fue de 916 pesos o US$23 cada una. Planeamos volver...

Gorgeous family-run Italian restaurant with wood- fired pizza oven in the garden, we enjoyed a delicious pizza with fresh caprese salad.
