Toro Rojo — Restaurant in San Miguel de Allende

We had no clue what to do when we ate here and the waitress was no help. She should explain how it works. There is a small salad bar and we got aztec soup. Always let the workers serve you and wear a mask when walking around. First, order the kind of meat you want. We only liked the arrachera, tasajo, Korean ribs and the bbq ribs. Very salty meat. :( They brought out an assortment of meat that we didn’t eat, like several kinds of sausage. The waitress brought out the ribs later and gave me one. Delicious! She will bring out grilled corn and a tiny baked potato. Excellent. She also brought out a grilled pineapple with cinnamon that she sliced for us. The ribs are cut short, not heated and have very little meat. It’s as if they trimmed the meat off the bone before giving it to the patrons. They only give you 1 rib and bring only 3 on a plate from which to serve as if they were caviar. The have arrachera, Castillas Norteña and chorizo. The arrachera is precooked and reheated at the table on a personal grill. The arrachera is mushy but flavorful. The costillas Norteña Is tough and chewy. The salad bar is 95% carbs. I feel they give you very little selection of precooked grilled meats but lots of carbs. Corona is $45.00 and the buffet is $279.00 I've had better food many at many other restaurants in San Miguel...

Food was OK....but when it came time to check out, THEY DIDN'T PERMIT YOU TO TAKE YOUR LEFTOVERS WITH YOU...unbelievable! I understand buffets not permitting you to take buffet items out, but this was the meat they brought to our table on the heated grills. Crazy. I asked the waitress what they planned to do with our left over meat, and I never did understand what her explanation was. We will never return unless the decide to change that absurd policy.
