My original review was done over a year ago. I guess the popularity went to their head. We visited a couple atimes afterward and the food was not consistent and the service was terrible. My wife and I ordered, and one plate came out, and it wasn't until one of us was done eating that the other meal came out. This happened twice!! On another occasion, my wife ordered a breakfast bowl which had previously loved and it was bad, we sent it back and the second was just as bad, the owner came by and took it to the kitchen he later came back to tell us that they ran out of one of the main ingredients so thay had made a substitution, which did not work out BUT they still charged us for the dish!!!!
Below us the original review, I hope they improve the service and once again are what they used to be.
I am hesitating on whether I should write this review, as we may be shooting ourselves in the foot. We've heard and read a few recommendations to visit Rustica, and unfortunately, not every trendy restaurant has lived up to the hype. Well, this is not the case with Rustica. When we arrived, the hostess informed us that there would be a 30-minute wait. After about a 20ish minute wait we were guide to a table, on the way we were greeted by Eduardo (the owner). The atmosphere (open air patio) is very welcoming and comfortable. Beautiful from our point of view. We were quickly brought our menu, that was composed of acouple of pages, with just the right amount of items, (they serve breakfast items all day! 👍) I had the "The enmolados" and Cindy had the " Frittata" To MY taste the mole was perfect with just the right amount of sweetness and spiciness, the eggs were also perfectly cooked. The dish was perfect in MY opinion, in taste and quantity. According to Cindy the Frittata was delicious and her latte a frothy perfection, and I believe her because we both left our plates spotless. We had the chance to meet Pablo and Eduardo and they were both a pleasure to talk with. We give Rustica TWO thumbs 👍 👍
So why do I hesitate to write the review? It may become just that more popular, making our wait time longer, oh well, it will...

I went in the middle of a Tuesday morning and there was still a wait at this popular San Miguel de Allende eatery.
Since I was solo on this excursion, they seated me at the communal table after a fifteen minute wait.
They were so friendly as I was seated and greeted by everyone on staff.
As soon as I sat down, they asked me what I wanted to drink. I asked if they had fresh green juice and they said they did. It was brought quickly while I perused the menu.
The backyard patio is such a charming setting. Lots of trees and greenery and far enough from the busy main road that you can't hear any traffic or noise.
I ordered the fresh fruit plate and the breakfast sandwich. The fruit was so well presented and included strawberries, papaya, bananas, cantaloupe, raspberries and grapes. It was large enough to share if you're dining with others.
The breakfast sandwich was on fresh Ciabatta and was a perfect flavor blend. I almost added the bacon for an extra 30 pesos, but I wanted to experience the original sandwich with all the veggies and guacamole. It came with two tomato slices and a small pot of tasty seasoned potatoes.
The service was so friendly and professional. You could tell the whole staff took pride in their restaurant.
I highly recommend Rustica and I'll definitely be back...
Read moreI can not speak highly enough about this WONDERFUL restaurant. This is my second time in San Miguel and this is the one restaurant I was looking forward to eating at again. In particular, I could not wait to have another one of their peanut buttery and chocolatey Atom Ant smoothies. Beyond that, everything else my family and I have eaten here has been incredible. We have had the vegetable toast, the roasted vegetable and quinoa salad, and the french toast. As well as their coffee and green juice. Not only is everything absolutely delicious, everything is presented in a very aesthetically pleasing way. You can really tell how much thought and care they put into everything they serve. On top of all this, the service is fast and everyone is very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere as well is beautiful and their outside eating area in the back is its own little paradise. Lastly, I want to commend them for their obvious sustainability efforts. I saw no plastic and nothing wasteful. The straw in my drink was metal and the carryout container looked like recycled cardboard instead of styrofoam. Could not recommend this place enough, I cannot...
