• CREDIT-CARD FRAUD • THIEVING EMPLOYEES • FALSE ADVERTISING • ABYSMAL SERVICE • MEDIOCRE FOOD
The above pertains to the Panio located across from City Market and is based on first-hand knowledge from a visit in September 2023. Amount approved by this customer, was not the amount submitted to Visa. The difference was refunded by Visa, but Panio is now under investigation by Visa for credit-card fraud. Both the waiter and the cashier appeared to be in on the fraud.
Asked waiter for change for MXN100.00 so I could leave a tip and was given only MXN50.00 back. When asked where the rest of change was, was given an additional MXN15.00 by the waiter. When the cashier was asked where the rest of my change was, I was told that is all I get back. When asked for the manager, I was informed there was no manager. Thieves!
Advertising write-ups by Panio state that all meals revolve around bread. I ordered the lasagna and did not get any bread with the meal even though lasagna and bread go hand-in-hand.
The service was abysmal. Not only for me, but also for the other two people in the restaurant. The waiter was abrupt, irreverent, and ignored common curtesies expected in restaurants where customers have a choice about frequenting.
Lastly, the food was mediocre at best, it was tasteless and not worthy of any kind of repeat. My experience in Panio’s restaurant was so unfavorable, that desert or takeout was unthinkable.
Alberto Laposse should be ashamed of this Panio.
Update 2023-10-31: Visa determined Panio guilty of fraud and refunded me the difference of what I approved to be charged and what was...
Read moreI walked into the Panio on Salida a Celaya at 12:30 today ( Friday March 1). The place was empty. I ordered a baguette and some rolls to go. I also looked at a menu and asked for a Caesar Salad to go. The nice lady at the counter took my order and went to the kitchen to order the salad ( the kitchen is in full view of the restaurant). She came back and apologized, saying the kitchen staff told her no, lunch doesn’t start until 1:00pm. She saw the quizzical look on my face: the 3 cooks were just standing in the kitchen, looking into space. THEY WERE DOING NOTHING! She then went back to them and encouraged them to make the salad, since they weren’t busy and the ingredients were handy, but again they refused (it’s 12:30, not 1:00!) This was not my first experience with poor or indifferent service in one of the Panios( there are 3 in San Miguel) . I go there because I like their bread, but I will find another source. I have been in the restaurant business all my life; if I saw this happen in one of my restaurants, the three in the kitchen would be terminated immediately. HELLO OWNERS AND MANAGERS OF PANIO, WHO’S...

First of all as you enter the smell of freshly baked bread will win you over. The boulangerie is open and you can see how they work and bake the different breads.
Not only hard crust bread, sour baguette and amazing croissants but also typical mexican bread!
The Christmas panettone was perfect.
They also have a deli with cookies, jams, marmalades, wines, olive oil and some other goodies.
The restaurant part is really nice and comfy with a fresh edgy design. The eggs benny were sooo good and the coffee was of really good quality.
The service was good, fast and accurate.
There are 4 parking spaces which makes it easy to go by car.
Not super cheap but...
