Update: went back a second time for dinner and it was VERY disappointing. The dinner menu is very small. Not the same as lunch which surprised me. My tamales were very dry, the Buddha bowl was bland. Definitely won’t be returning. Far better veg/vegan places in town these days

I have been wanting to try this place for years and somehow never managed until yesterday! The place is super cute, lovely back garden, and colorful decorations. Unfortunately, we moved inside due to so many mosquitos (even though it is dry season). The food was not as great as we hoped but tasty. We ordered chilaquiles and the veggie burger. The chilaquiles were good but for the size the price was ridiculous and they charge extra for a protein but have no vegan options. Definitely better chilaquiles elsewhere for a fraction of the price. The burger was also tasty but for a vegetarian burger over relied on cheese and mayo for flavor. The patty was crumbly/soggy and lacked structure. I liked that it contained mushrooms though and wasn’t overpureed so you could identify the ingredients but it should be thicker/more cohesive. They veggies on it were nice though! The potatoes were very tasty!! We tried various baked goods which were only okay. The granola cookie is very dry, the brown is more like a cake texture and also dry. The banana bread was the best and very moist! Our smoothie was lackluster and once again the price was pretty surprising. While I wasn’t thrilled by my experience, the dinner menu looked like it had some good items so I will likely return to try more things as I love the large vegetarian menu. Wish the prices matched size and...

5-Star Review for Yerbabuena del Sisal – A Hidden Gem in Mérida!

I recently dined at Yerbabuena del Sisal in the heart of Mérida’s historic Centro, and it was an unforgettable experience! Nestled in the charming neighborhood of Sisal, this restaurant perfectly blends local culture with a vibrant, welcoming vibe.

From the moment I arrived, the warm and friendly staff made me feel right at home. The servers were attentive and knowledgeable, offering great recommendations with a genuine smile. Even the locals dining there were so pleasant—it’s clear this place has a strong sense of community.

The food was absolutely delicious, with fresh, high-quality ingredients and bold Yucatecan flavors. I especially loved their cochinita pibil and their creative vegetarian options—everything was seasoned to perfection!

The ambiance is another highlight—rustic yet modern, with a lovely courtyard setting that captures the essence of Mérida. Whether you're a visitor or a local, Yerbabuena del Sisal offers a true taste of Yucatán’s hospitality.

Highly recommend this spot for amazing food, great people, and a fantastic atmosphere! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

P.S. Don’t skip their craft cocktails—the mezcal-based drinks are a must-try!

10/10 – Will...

Best cappuccino so far on our trip (all others have been too weak for these two Europeans!). The food is decently priced and delicious! So much flavor, and even my spouse who can’t handle spicy food loved his pork dish (he asked for the mole sauce on the side). I had the Yucatán chicken dish and it was incredibly flavorful. Handmade warm blue-corn tortillas on the side. The mole was delicious as well, but a tad on the spicy side even for my taste. Also tried the tamarind Agua fresqua which I’ve never tried before, refreshing but a little sweet (not too sweet, I assume it’s supposed to be a little sweet!). Facilities are clean as well, great restrooms, space between tables, cute decor, pleasant music playing in the background (nothing loud or annoying like in some other places). Also, not often mentioned, but they had sharp cutlery so you can actually cut your meat. This impressed my spouse who has been annoyed by the “butter knives” we’ve received at other places. Staff was super friendly and very efficient with food and getting the bill etc. They even have a little map where you can put a pin to say where you’re from! 10/10 would go back in a heartbeat. Perfect spot for lunch...

I'm struggling to review this place. It's beautiful and the food, for the most part was pretty wonderful. I'm also just assuming we came on a bad day. But service was incredibly slow. Two servers waited on us. And eventually someone came to check on us and it seems they had just forgotten to serve us. Had to wait after that for them to make our food? We would order things and then the server would warn us it would take too long and not to order it. From looking around I think something happened in the kitchen that messed everyone up. So I don't want to claim this is a typical experience, but we waited a long time and paid good money for a "just fine" meal. Would have given 4 stars if we hadn't waited so long for food. Would have given it 5 if we could order what we wanted off the menu without fear it would "take a long time." All that said, try the pumpkin seed dip. It was amazing.
