My 13 year old son was not excited to go see this “old building” he called it. But he was memorized once we walked into the chapel and saw all of the old architecture. He was excited to see the wooden sculptures. I do have to admit that he couldn’t help himself to shout out “echo” in the chapel because the acoustic was so good. I convinced him to sing a short tune to a hymn instead because it felt more respectful. He loved it. When he saw the artifacts and how they had scuba dived down the center to find them he was excited to see the cenote. He was exploring all of the little rooms and paths around the grounds. Read moreA beautiful and historic place to visit in Valladolid! The Convento de San Bernardino de Siena has so much charm and atmosphere. The entrance fee is very affordable (20 pesos), and inside you’ll find not only the impressive old church but also photo exhibitions that give more context to the history of the convent.
The grounds are peaceful and lovely to walk around — there’s an old well, as well as avocado and banana trees that add to the unique vibe of the place.

Read moreThis convent is not in the very center of Valladolid. From the Cathedral's main square it's a 15-20 min walk. I suggest going via the Frailes colorful street and at it's end you'll find yourself on a big plaza. First, there's a Valladolid sign from where you can take great pics along with the convent. The Franciscan convent dates back to 16c and played a great role in Christianizing the Maya people. It's very well preserved, reminding on such throughout Europe.
