Great hidden place in the most beautiful street in Valladolid! The beer was better than any I've had in Mexico (Vanilla Stout!) and the burger and queso fundido were first class with so much flavor. We were skeptical at first because the receptionist at our hotel told us about it at check in (do they get a kick-back or something--we're sure now the answer is no). It's pretty unassuming when you first arrive and tell the hostess that you're there for the restaurant and not the museum that you have to walk through to get to the inner courtyard. The museum has beautiful and fascinating local art (make sure you give it 15 minutes). The restaurant is even more of a surprise, settled in a manicured garden with seating spread out all along the various paths surrounding a central fountain. Photography and art line one wallthat'ss framed with monstera vines. The food was delicious and we could tell the servers genuinely cared about getting our order right. They were also very attentive but still unobtrusive throughout the dinner. Toward the end of our meal, a solo guitarist plugged in and, even though we were right next to the stage, we could still talk while enjoying the music. His voice and playing style were both gorgeous. I will go out of my way to...
Read moreThis place has a lot of potential. Chef seems to understand flavors well. We loved the poppers and the beer flight.
BUT they need to organize their staff better. There are plenty of staff and they’re all super nice and helpful, but there’s no organization or efficiently at all. In all well-run restaurants, each waiter is dedicated to specific tables which allows them to be attentive to guests at those tables. Here everyone’s doing everything which means no one pays attention to any specific guests and you are always forgotten. We had 5 different people take our order and serve us, and they forgot us after asking to wait for a table (they did add one for us after). And all the tacos came out cold because they likely forgot about us for a while. Unfortunate, because they would have tasted much better.
They did apologize and gave us free cocktails to compensate, but it really wasn’t the fault of the staff but rather the lack of organization. Assign each waiter specific tables and one person to seat all guests please! Make their job easier.
The credit card machine worked fine which was nice. Atmosphere is great too, especially when they don’t forget to turn the music on. Again, assign this responsibility to one...
Read moreGreat craft beer menu plus reasonably priced non-beer drinks, fantastic gourmet tacos and a lovely patio setting.
Food - we had the guacamole with pork (greasy but delicious), marinated skirt steak taco with goats cheese and sweet onion (we actually ordered the other steak taco and were given this instead but it ended up being our favourite taco, so no hard feelings), chicken breast taco with coffee and chocolate salsa (did not have a strong coffee or chocolate flavour but the chicken was cooked to juicy perfection), vegetarian taco with garlic mushrooms, banana and panela cheese (tasty but needed the complimentary sauces to lift it).
This is definitely on the more expensive side for tacos at 60 or 70 MX per taco (slightly less if you get 2) but worth it for the flavours and they are generously loaded tacos.
Drinks - the Patio Porter Vanilla was excellent and the gavilan cocktail with tequila and natural grapefruit juice was unexpectedly sweet but very yummy and a bargain at 65 MX.
We arrived at 7pm on a Tuesday (when many other Valladolid restaurants are closed), walked through the gallery and secured a table for 2 easily. They did not have a working EFTPOS machine so we had...
