An absolutely wonderful little family run restaurant, which has only recently opened.
Here, you can eat delicious food and be refreshed by homemade lemonades which are made and, for example, served by two generations of this sweet, intelligent, bright family who are the original inhabitants of the building.
All the money, trend or social media influence could not buy the tradition of family life and cooking culture carried through the generations and its vital to support such originality with a humble heart.
The food- we immediately noticed that these were no ordinary tortillas!! Served in artisenal earthenware gave the homemade-with-love details even more taste.
Simple decor of blue walls in one room, yellow in another with creative touches of little mexican bags in the alcoves gives this place a spacious, uncluttered, airy unpretentious feel, which was a welcome relief after tourist trap or overpriced try-hard instagram-traps on our travels.
We stumbled upon this humble and authentic little gem whilst tired and hungry and felt immediately cared for, with exquisite attention. We have been back almost every day since to repeat the ‘mamas kitchen’ real deal feel.
Here they are preserving and serving the tradition of Mayan cooking and eating here feels like giving back to the community, rather than lining the pockets of absent entrepreneurs.
Simply 5 stars for De...
Read moreService is fast, very local and friendly. NO LOCALS EAT HERE. It is 100% touristy. A bit crowded and hot inside, but they air a lot at nights and have fans inside. It is a bit sad that the worldwide Sopa de Lima (Lima soup) is made with chicken broth, I know it is authentically with chicken, but I felt a bit bad that my foreign bf couldnt eat it due to no veggie broth. Empanadas take around 30mins to be brought. Bathroom is clean but veery humble, so be prepared. Chicken green chilaquiles were ok, chicken was chewy. Empanadas were a bit greasy for my personal taste, but they were good. Soy vegan tacos were very good. Salsas are still spicy. As a Mexican, I dont really get the hype of this place between foreigners.
BEWARE!!!!! They do take cards but since they prefer cash, they will make you wait super long so you pay cash and leave. When I mentioned (again, in Spanish as I am mexican) that we didnt have the cash to pay, only card, they made some face and then went to get the machine. In less than 1 minute we paid with the card/terminal.
I am just so disappointed on them...
Read moreWhile reading good reviews we decided to come up to this restaurant. The atmosphere and food was nice , BUT I consider that we overpaid 200 MX. let me explain my self the waiter didn’t inform that when you order a drink and add big that means you will be brought a jug which cost almost 10 usd it is ok when you really want it to order. Then I ordered a taco with fillet which was advised by the waiter and got a fillet fish which cost us 3X more. While asking he was excusing but before ordered I asked him and clearly explained what I ordered. There is no menu in English and when you order something be prepared that you will get not the exact thing what you have ordered. I felt myself bad after this experience and this spoilt the whole good empressions of the food. I can add that I would give 5 stars to the food and 3 or even 2 to...
