My family and I went here for dinner while we were in Casablanca during our Morocco trip recently. The reviews and rating looked good and the restaurant looked like it was walking distance from our hotel. So I suggested this place as our first dinner destination during our stay.
We had little bit of difficulty finding the restaurant at first while following the GPS.
It was going to be my first Moroccan meal so I tried the rice with mix meat and the Moroccan soup. Rest of my family ordered different dishes from the menu.
I didn’t like the soup and when the owner/server asked about how the food was, I mentioned to him and he was nice to take it off the bill. But I still gave the amount as a tip.
Overall I liked the rice and mix meat dish and left with good impression of the restaurant that I recommend it to my family again during our last night in Morocco.
Sadly the experience was not pleasant at all. My sister order a lamb dish and when her dish came out she thought it was chicken so when she told the sever he took it back and the owner came back and made a scene. He touched the meat that my sister picked separately to feed her kids, tasted it, said it’s not chicken, and then out that same meat back on the plate, and walked away. That is just plain gross!!
He seemed quite upset and the atmosphere felt completely unpleasant afterwards. He brought out the dish and my sister tried to feed her kids because they needed to have their dinner and we all tried to eat our food since we were hungry even though none of us actually liked any of it.
I felt terrible because I was the one who recommended the place. My brother in law got the same dish as me and he was like it was completely tasteless.
I lost my appetite.
The restaurant was completely empty. The owner could have tried to give us better service. It was our first time in Morocco and experiencing Moroccan food so we were picky and undecided but he could have been little bit more understanding. And he should NOT have touch the food on our plate and left it on our table after touching it.
It’s gross and...
Read moreWe had arrived in Casablanca from an overnight flight earlier in the day and found ourselves hungry for dinner at 4:30pm. This restaurant was within an easy 5 minute walk of where we were staying at Hotel Diwan. At first, we were disappointed because the door to the restaurant was locked and we thought we were too early for dinner - understandable given the time in the late afternoon. However, we decided to try knocking at the door and it was promptly answered by a friendly man who welcomed us into Étoile du Maroc also known as Étoile Centrale.
The atmosphere and decor are absolutely lovely. Such a feast for the eyes with beautiful carved tables, plush pillows on banquette seating, and colourful tiles on the walls.
They have a traditional Moroccan menu, and we ordered kefta tagine and vegetable tagine. Our server brought us complimentary bread and butter, olives and harissa. We didn’t wait very long for our dinner to be served and the food was really delicious. I felt the prices were very reasonable, and we were quite satisfied with our first meal in Morocco. I would very much recommend Étoile du Maroc, especially if it is your first day in this...
Read moreI was looking for an authentic traditional Moroccan restaurant and this did not disappoint. I read a review from someone claiming that this was the best Chicken Tagine they ever tried. At first, I was skeptical, but now I believe. It was my best here in Morocco so far. The flavors are perfectly blended together. I also liked the bread they served you. It was different from other restaurants and they had a nice spicy dip to go with it. The portions are small, but that is good because you can try a lot of different dishes without getting too full. Also, the service here is exceptional. I...
