Food was alright, but the service my manager (?) nonexistent.
After walking 20 minutes to the restaurant, I was met with a half filled restaurant and nothing more. After roaming around, a server informed me I needed to speak with the lady outside, who was engaged in conversation with her friends. After waiting at the till, she comes over and tells me they are fully booked (nothing else offered). I asked about take-away and she informed me it was possible, if I get the order in before the other tables order as it would then take too much time. I agreed, and was left standing at the till again with nobody to take the order. I explain to a server and they help me out. I then awkwardly stand against the wall, while empty chairs sit around. I left about 7 minutes later with my pizza, but without an offer for a glass of water, an offer to sit at a chair while waiting, or a "thank you or goodbye".
I know I am a single person traveling, but I am still a customer. Felt under-valued. The pizza was not bad, but the service ruined the experience. Seems she wasn't even trying. I'd like to see more restaurants in the area to force a bit more...
Read moreNever heard of a restaurant that tells me they are to busy to serve me take-away and I should go somewhere else! While I can see they are half empty. Ridiculous and on top of that the person was irritated and very rude! Shame on you. (edited) reply on owners reply: I can see you are trying to make me sound like the unreasonable person here, but let me just say that you DID tell me to go look for something to eat somewhere else! This after I pleaded you to assist me because I'm staying in the hotel next door to your restaurant and I don't have a car to drive around. You didn't even say okay, but it will take longer to help you (which I would have understood). I could see there are empty tables at your restaurant so please don't lie about being full. I never even heard a "I am so sorry I can't help you" or anything like that....
Read moreA small piece of Italy in Swakopmund. The owners of Gabriele's have years of Italian cooking under their belt and it shows (tastes?). The pizza menu itself consists of 4 pages of pizza! Which, personally, is a bit overwhelming. But once you've finally made your decision, you can expect a uniquely thinly crusted pizza to land on your table. I've never had walnuts on pizza but they make it work. Be sure to make bookings ahead of time as they are consistently packed, as expected. They make use of locally sourced produce, which is highly appreciated. When ordering, be sure to get yourself starters and dessert, as the pizza is quite thin (but not skimping on topppings) and is easily devoured without leaving you stuffed. My husband loves Tiramisu and says he was not disappointed. I look forward to returning to try their...
