The Chimney Restaurant is one of the oldest and most popular restaurants in Kathmandu, Nepal. It was founded in 1968 by Boris Lissanevitch, a Russian émigré who wanted to introduce Nepal to the world of fine dining. The restaurant is located in the heart of Kathmandu, in a historic building that was once part of the royal palace.

We started our dining experience with Amuse-bouche, Focaccia bread with olive and salsa dips. Super!

Items we had, Russian Borscht 800NPR Asian Tomato Salad 600NPR Arugula Feta Salad 700NPR Tom Yum Soup Prawn Tempura w/ Ponzu dumpling sauce 1300NPR Chili Caramel Salmon 2500NPR Lamb Chops 4500NPR Baked Alaska Sagarmatha 700NPR

We had a wonderful dining experience here, perfect for celebrating special occasions. Starting with the salads, both of them were fresh and our favourite pick would be the arugula feta salad, it was a little sweet and refreshing. We loved the Russian borscht made of veggies. The lamb chops and the grilled salmon were the stars of the show! Worth a visit here! The prawn was crispy and perfectly flavoured. A trio of frozen ice cream wrapped in meringue made the baked Alaska delicious! Also, the serving with fire was something unique for us!

The service here is top-notch. They are always happy to make recommendations and help you choose the perfect meal.

The atmosphere at The Chimney Restaurant is elegant and inviting. The restaurant is decorated with traditional Nepali furniture and artwork. The dining room is spacious and well-lit, and there is a large outdoor patio where you can enjoy your meal on a warm evening.

As you walk through the entrance you're greeted and guided to your table at the Chimney Restaurant. At the heart of the Chimney Restaurant is a hardworking, skilled and passionate team of chefs catering for not only the restaurant, but the whole of the complex and historical features. Rajiv has done an exceptional job of maintaining standards throughout the whole of his team alongside Sanil and Dioendra, as well as others. They clearly know what they're doing, the food was outstanding and the service team carried the passion through to the table. We had the pleasure of Saurab as our waiter as well as the help of Joseff. We experienced of multiple local Nepali dishes, vegetarian dishes and beautiful wine. Portion sizes are generous. We left very happy feeling like we walked away with an experience and intised to come again, not only for food but for a stay also. You can also see that all the staff here enjoy providing a high end service which makes for the experience.

Thank you very much to the Chimney chef team - Shane and Freya,...

During my visit to The Chimney Restaurant, nestled within the historic Lal Durbar palace at Hotel Yak & Yeti, I was thoroughly impressed by the blend of traditional and contemporary ambiance. The setting, adorned with a sixty-year-old copper chimney, creates a unique and charming atmosphere that complements the exquisite dining experience.

The food was amazing, with each dish showcasing a perfect balance of Asian and Western influences, leaving a lasting impression on my palate.

The service was impeccable, with Saurab, Abiral, Rabi, and Dipesh ensuring that every detail was attended to with care. Their warm hospitality made the evening all the more enjoyable.

The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the Baked Alaska, which was nothing short of fantastic—perfectly executed and a delight to the senses. Overall, The Chimney Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone seeking a memorable fine-dining experience...
