A disappointing experience

We ordered the cevice and scallops for our starters. The cevice was absolutely tasteless and the scalops quite hard. Then we proceed to order our main dish and I ordered mussels in tomato sauce and a steak. When the mussels came I realized they were very spicy and also had peppers in them which I was not told about. I really did not like it. I asked the waitress very politely if I could please have something else. Without a smile and with visible bother she took them away. I ordered tomatoe soup. Which was again very average. When we were about to pay the waitress did not want to take away the mussels from the bill and we had to pay for them. In a good restaurant one can send food back if they don't like it and DOESN'T have to pay for it.

I did not have an enjoyable evening. The food is not good, the service is not nice. Save your money and rather go to Abby's restaurant which is just...

We were a group of international artist (around 25 persons) meeting evening sat 26 oct in Stadskaffee. We had no scheduled meeting there - colleagues came and left the place according their own plans. Anyhow nobody could pay their bill separately, so the last ones staying had to pay for everybody - reason for this ridiculous service, when I asked- was "It´s too much work!!". Well, next time when we organize happenings in Alkmaar, at least we´ll be wiser not to enter this place any more. The food was nice, the experience was elevated by the great ambiance and excellent service.

I had the ribeye, which came with a flavorful sauce and a side of well-grilled vegetables. The steak was good, though not extraordinary.

However, the cozy atmosphere and attentive staff made the dining experience very enjoyable.
