This is an absolutely fabulous and authentic local Amsterdam brown cafe (pub) with a great terrace, complete with a boules (aka pétanque) court. The food is excellent. The interior is cozy, with candles on the tables. The location, at the southern end of Bickerseiland, on the north side of the railroad tracks that border the northern end of the Jordaan, is an invitation to explore the rest of the Westelijke Eilanden (Bickerseiland, Prinseneiland, and Realeneiland) before or after your drinks and/or meal. Read moreWe live in this neighbourhood and we have always loved this place and we went there a lot. Recently the staff changed and with that, the quality of the service too unfortunately. Especially one person ruins the ambiance for everyone by being really disrespectful towards several customers. Such a pity because we don’t feel welcome anymore. Now every time we ask that person something (like a drink for example) it’s like we’re asking too much and she would rather see us leave. It was extremely comfortable, reasonably priced with a large range of fabulous tasting beers, and the food was to die for. We chose the beef stew which was absolutely the best, cooked with satay sauce it was delicious.
The landlord was pleasant and friendly and during our stock short stay in Amsterdam we returned to the spa time and again.
