Bar Regular & Jack — Restaurant in Amsterdam

I had a really negative experience at this place with an insanely grumpy bar owner. If he thinks you are a tourist (I’m not, I live close by) he treats you like trash. The particular situation we ran in was that we wanted to have lunch at this place and sat outside to wait till it opens (we’ve been 5 minutes early). When asking when he opens, he responded with “whenever I want” and walked off. He then closed the door in front of us and locked it while looking at us. If you have a bad day or are mad at tourists, take a deep breath and remember where you opened your bar (next to one of the main attractions of Amsterdam, the flower market). I was at this place before around 3 times and enjoyed the huge Hot Dogs and the sports that was running on the screens. Watching Formula 1 there will not happen again though since football was running at the same time and he switched channels and audio mid race to football. We now better go to Martins (200m away) where the food is of same quality but in a better environment with friendly staff.

As always, I’ll give a place another 3rd chance and might update my review with new, non biased...

This is a nice sports bar in a great location. Very cool atmosphere - especially for watching sports. Typical sports bar type menu with a fairly limited selection of beers. Nice specialty cocktail menu with a dozen or so drinks. The food…not the best from what we can tell. We ordered ribs which they recommended. Coming from America though, we are a bit spoiled on BBQ. The ribs were very bland and not much flavor - I think there was ketchup smothered on top which was weird. If the bar is reviewing this, here are a few friendly tips. Be sure to peel off the membrane from the back of the ribs. Use something like mustard as a good binder on them and sprinkle them generously with a nice spicy rub. Really not a good experience. We had a beer and a apple cider. It was good and as you would expect. When I would buy us a new round the first waiter we had was fixing the beer keg. So I tried the second waiter. He was just so rude! At this time there was not busy at the bar, but the waiter ignored me several times and I really do not know why. For example he served a girl that just walked through everybody and yelled. The fourth time I tried to get in touch we had eye contact and he said ‘one minuet’. I thought ‘we’ll okay I will wait’. Than two new girls entered the bar and stood next to me. The same waiter saw the two new girls and rushed right to them to take their order. Well noted that I stood right next to them still waiting.
