Cafe Bouwman — Restaurant in Amsterdam

Run. Believe all the reviews mentioning the horrible service. I wish I had read them before coming here. The only way I can explain the positive reviews is that there must be different staff on different days.

I made the naive mistake to sit down due to the very cute setting at the canal. I then might have experienced the worst customer service of my life.

Never have I seen someone working in a restaurant seem so bothered to have to serve people. It’s not just that it was bad, I felt outright uncomfortable and unwelcomed by the staff. It bordered on hostile.

I had a very simple order (one tea and one panini) and the server came back to my table twice to ask me again because she forgot my order. I got my tea in a very unclean and stained glass. I then waited 40 min but the panini never arrived nor was I even able to get the servers attention to check in on my order. I went inside to pay at the bar and didn’t even get an apology for the missed order.

I've had one of the worst customer experinaces at this restaurant/bar.

My friend and I stopped at this place for a quick bite before heading to the skinny bridge to take pictures.

The 2 staff members were rude and inattentive deliberately and would suddenly scatter when approached for a simple thing like ordering or asking for the bill. When we ordered food and a coffee, we were surprised as the ordered plates and cups were practically tossed on top of the table (and on the menus that were there!).

This behaviour "seems" to be targeting non-Dutch customers, which is a shame as I know the Dutch are better than that.

My only regret is not reading reviews before...
