Café Cress — Restaurant in Amsterdam

Great little spot. As always there is no such thing as perfection across all aspects and for all people but this was pretty damn close.

The Atmosphere

Lovely warm, spacious feeling with a very tolerable level of noise. Given how much was going on that is impressive.

The staff

Friendly and attentive. Well informed and explained each dish. They were a little slow to give menus and take the orders but after that it was smooth sailing.

The food

We had the 3 course menu which includes dessert

The starter was a gazpacho made of mint and courgette with a goats cheese mountain in the centre and was really really good. I could eat a bucket of that and I am not a huge fan of cold dishes so it really does speak to the quality. I especially loved the crispy wild rice sprinkled throughout

The main course was a beautifully cooked pork belly that fell apart. The side was a salad that was tasty and considered. There was a dish of small roasted new potatoes which were under salted and not crisp enough for me but we're still good.

The dessert was an ice-cream made from corn, white chocolate mouse, polenta cake and a citrus gel. All the elements worked really well together and were tasty on their own. The polenta was a little dry if I had to pick on something

The drinks

My partner was very happy with her Bellini. I had a Moscow Mule which had a very mild taste. It was not to my taste but was still very well prepared. The wine list was very good and that is where I should...

Shockingly good, amazingly affordable, warm and friendly, with meals as subtle and delicious as one could find at restaurants charging three times as much. It’s Paris without any of the stuffiness or formality. Amazing quality, warmth, and graciousness, food that is as delicious and tastefully presented as anywhere, just free of the oppressive “atmosphere” of the named greats. Great experience. Service is efficient and very friendly, food is very tasty, I had an amasing pumpkin starter and a very tasty fish main course. Apparently the menu changed every week so I will probably come back pretty soon to test the new additions to the menu. Special mention to the great wine card. We sampled 7 different wines with my group of friends and they were all great. Oh and also, desserts are absolutely amazing. Will definitely...
