Café MOJO Amsterdam — Restaurant in Amsterdam

We’ve been to Café MOJO a few times now for drinks, and we do like this place; it’s a really nice location and the drinks are good. However we recently went for some food and we didn’t have a good experience.

We ordered a burger and a fish dish. The fish was rubbery and small and the vegetables were dry. Hardly any of the fish dish was eaten. The burger was good, no complaints about it.

We didn’t get a “check in” during the dinner, which is fine, that is usually what happens during busy service in the city, so only when the plates were taken away did we give feedback about the fish.

When the bill arrived, the full price was on the bill. When we provided feedback again, the Café offered to take 1 glass of wine off the bill. We weren’t happy with that, and after reiterating a few times that the dish was not good and not eaten, we just eventually accepted the bill. Really, the fish dish should have been taken off the bill completely.

We’ll probably go back again when it’s a sunny day for drinks, but...

Nice place with decent beers and burgers, but VERY unsuited for groups. Ended up being forced to pay 37.- for a burger, instead of 16.50. Let me elaborate.

We went there with a small group to eat some burgers, but were forced to order from the "group menu" which has only ONE option (meat platter, which is mainly just the burger, with a bit of unseasoned chicken and a few very tough ribs added), and a vegetarian option. The burger is 16.50, while this platter usually costs 22.50 on the normal menu, but was reduced to 18.50 on the group menu. However, it turned out they made it a 2-person meal, ringing us up for 2x18.50 = 37.- per platter. I think this is a horrible way to extort money from groups, and would advice never to go here with more...

We like the atmosphere at MOJO, it is chilled , relax, nice place to have a few drinks/beers. However, yesterday we went for dinner and we left so disappointed. We ordered 3 mussels with fries. The mussels had no taste at all, there were some vegetables in it that seemed that came out of a can or frozen bag (Peas, small carrots).

We also ordered a beefsteak, it was OK. Some parts were a bit chewy and the sauce seemed to be made out of bouillon cubes.

I would totally recommend this place for drinks, snacks but...
