I visited De Koffieschenkerij, a cozy café right next to De Oude Kerk (The Old Church), about a 7–10 minute walk from Amsterdam Central Station. The location is very charming - there’s a lovely outdoor garden with a pear tree, and inside it’s cozy with soft lighting and nice textures.

The apple pie (€6.20) really lives up to its reputation - delicious and the cappuccino (€4.80 for a large) was smooth and tasty, though the size felt small for the price.

Cons: Ordering system: Everything runs through their app/QR code, even if you’re dining in. The app said “take away,” but I was told to order through it for dining in as well.

Payment: They don’t take cash (at least at the time of my visit). I had to pay via Apple Pay in CAD, which came to about 22.10 CAD. Good to check with them about euro payments if you prefer cash.

Service: The staff didn’t feel very engaged. While polite, the warmth and energy were missing, and I was served my coffee and pie in takeaway containers even though I asked to sit inside. It made me feel a bit out of place.

Overall:

On my solo travel in this stunning city, sitting down for my first coffee and pie, it felt a bit detached. The apple pie was smooth, delicious, and a good size, and the cappuccino was enjoyable, though the “large” felt a bit small. Digital ordering is convenient, but being served in takeaway containers inside took away from the warmth of my first experience, and I hope you guys have a better...

This little cafe is excellent, so much so that I'm reviewing it a couple weeks after my visit! It was a rainy and cold day so I was looking for a place to warm up and I stopped into this little cafe as it was also near my hotel. I immediately proceeded to find a table inside and found a QR code at the table so that I could order online. I ordered a coffee and a carrot cake. Both arrived to my table in under 10 minutes. The coffee was excellent--very well rounded and vibrant flavor. The carrot cake slice was bigger than expected and the cake moist and also full of flavor. It was quiet in the cafe so I spent a couple hours there reading and ordered a second coffee. Being in an old church, I loved the vibe and uniqueness of the cafe. I believe there is upstairs seating but I chose the first floor. There is also a cute outdoor garden area with seating when the...

What a gem! The first floor is perfect for sates and catching up with friends, while upstairs feels like an oasis away from the hustle bustles of Centraal. The staff are super friendly and, of course, their coffee tastes delicious.

Highly recommended!

EDIT: Since my last review, they instituted a blanket ban on laptops. This is unfortunate. I came to the store with the goal of doing some work. I was the only customer on the second floor for an hour. The staff insisted that I put my laptop away, even though there was no one else there. I understand they want to create a cordial atmosphere. Rather than alienating an entire segment of customers, they could’ve allowed laptops in part of the store, such as only the second floor. Many other stores have similar policy. That way those who want to work can be separated from those who prefer laptop-free. ...
