My friend and I stumbled upon De Pizzabakkers for our pizza night since our usual place was full. It’s a little restaurant, so not much place to sit inside.
They’ve set up a cozy outdoor area with heaters, which is a blessing unpredictable weather nowadays. Our visit started with a minor issue. We didn’t reserve, so we were seated outside, no problem. But then, another people arrived and was also seated outside, only to be moved inside moments later because a table had freed up. We felt a bit ignored since they didn’t offer us in the first place the same choice. A quick question would’ve been thoughtful.
I ordered the Campagnola pizza from the pizza menu, and it was amazing! The thin crust was perfectly crispy, and you could taste the wood-fired oven’s touch. Fresh toppings made it even better.
The staff were friendly. But the whole seating situation left a bit of a sour taste.
In terms of price, it’s a bit much for what they offer. There are other places nearby with better price and quality. Still, the pizza was delicious, and the atmosphere is great for a casual...
Read moreI have long rated the pizza as one of the best I have experienced in my travels ever since enjoying the pizzas from the first store on Haarlemmerdijk.
As I relocated around Amsterdam and a new store opened, I was always struck by the consistency of the pizza. The base was still thin and crisp, and the tomato flavour subtle and fresh.
On a recent trip back to Amsterdam I was looking forward to a nostalgic journey into pizza bliss. What could be better than enjoying my favourite pizza?
I was left disappointed by what had more similarities to a 'New York Pizza' than that from the De Pizzabakkers as I remembered it.
The crust was no longer covered in a light dusting of flour. In its place was a course stippling of what I could not exactly figure out. The crisp snap of the crust was now stodgy. The sauce no longer the anchor of the flavour experience.
The whole encounter was underwhelming and left me feeling like I have lost something that I doubt I...
Read moreDelicious pizzas in a laid-back atmosphere. Hip and cosy setting, with a mixed crowd. Pizzas are mouthwatering, crunchy and with just the right amount of toppings. Staff is friendly, but aren't the best hosts I've ever had. On a Friday evening, you can only reserve a table for a 2 hour block. What doesn't help is that service isn't on top of their game with taking orders and checking for empty glasses. We took it easy ourselves, but the staff wasn't quick and available when necessary. We got asked (in a friendly manner) if we could vacate the table after 2 hours and therefore weren't able to have desserts. Pity, because if our orders would have been taken earlier, we would have had plenty of time for desserts still. High chair is available. No smaller or half pizzas available for children though, which is a bit odd, because it seems like very little work and my 1,5 year old won't finish a...
