The Japanese restaurant has an original concept. It is a kind of “Japanese Tapas bar”. It is based on the Japanese izakaya: small bars where workers can relax after a long day at work with beer, sake and finger food. The Japanese are the first Amsterdam izakaya like restaurant in Amsterdam. You order small dishes that you share. The food is simple, fresh and delicious. The prices are conform to the type of restaurant. They are not cheap but not very expensive either. The restaurant has an informal setting with long wooden tables to sit with other guests. There are also some high tables for two people. The restaurant is easily accessible by public transport. Tip and tops: The food is delicious and fresh. tops; make sure the menu is also available in Dutch; we still live in the Netherlands and not in NY. Make sure the music fits the type of restaurant, Japanese music and make sure your toilet is always clean and there is toilet...

I recently dined at De Japanner restaurant in Amsterdam and I must say, it was a truly exceptional experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The decor was modern, with a focus on popular Japanese culture. The menu was extensive and offered a variety of authentic dishes, all of which were expertly prepared and beautifully presented. The sushi was especially fresh and flavorful, and the sashimi was light and delicious. The service was attentive and knowledgeable, and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a memorable dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious Japanese cuisine in Amsterdam. It truly stands out as one of the best small...

Best Asian fusion place I've been in a while in this city, non pretentious and these guys actually know what they are doing. We were surprised with the chefs menu, and this was far from disappointing. Approx. 10 small dishes for 2 persons, very flavourful, accompanied with nice beers and sake, absolute good value for money.

We arrived early and managed to grab two seats, the place was packed in no time. Very helpful and knowledgable staff. They actually had fun in serving their customers. Amsterdam is famous about their poor service, this place is not one of them. Will come again for sure, highly recommended!

Note to the owners: your place reminds me of Toronto, go there for an...

It was zo GEZELLIG! I had dinner with my friend on an 'ordinary' Monday evening in their location in the Albert Cuypstraat. However, it felt far from ordinary as the place was packed and had a lovely and lively buzz, which turned the ordinary Monday from nice to fantastic! The staff was really friendly and helpful and the food simply delicious. The menu is concise, but complete. I think we almost had everything, but the special. The aubergine was really tasty, as well as the Katsu and Ikan Fries. De Japanner is a perfect place for a casual dinner with tasty, inexpensive food :)

If you’re gonna call yourself a Japanese restaurant you should learn how to make Japanese food. Gyozas were soggy, sushi tasted like albert heijn’s sushi, and the crispy fried rice were overcooked that it was so hard and unpleasant for the teeth. i would give this place a 2/10 for the nice service of the staff (they gave me a new portion of the fried rice because the old one was too hard to eat), but the food is just not Japanese.
